I was amazed to discover that this bar contained just four ingredients:  Brown Rice Syrup, Puffed Brown Rice, Almond Butter, and Carob Chips.  Apparently simplicity works for the Carob Almond Bar, as the ingredients melded well to a mild, smooth, natural tasting chocolate flavor.  It had somewhat of a “PowerBar” like texture, but it was a bit softer and less chewy.  I utilized this bar as a pre-game charger due to the low protein, low fat, and high carbohydrate mix.  Although I trialed it quite early in the morning, it wasn’t too filling.  It also kept me going through the game at full speed, even though I was powered on just 5 hours of sleep, quite impressive.  Although I was not a big fan of the texture, and would pick another bar first, I did enjoy it, and would recommend it for dairy free converts who were former “PowerBar” junkies, or anyone looking for a softer, smoother energy bar with a sweet chocolaty flavor.

Overall MacroBar Review:

The ingredients in these bars seemed almost too good to be true.  Vegan, organic, gluten-free, and pure seem to be the signatures of Go Macro.  The developers of the MacroBar are followers of the Macrobiotic Diet, an emerging trend that focuses on unrefined, whole, and natural foods.  This equates to no refined sugars, white flours, or preservatives.  Oats, puffed brown rice, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, brown rice syrup, and nut butters cover the majority of the ingredients utilized in these bars.  The result is an all-natural “PowerBar” like texture, only softer and less chewy.  A sure treat for those who were disappointed to discover that high fructose corn syrup is now the first ingredient in PowerBar’s Performace Bars.  If you are looking for a chunkier consistency, then the Sesame Berry and Granola Delight MacroBars are definitely worth a bite.
