Odwalla Bar - Super Protein (Vegan) PDF Print E-mail

By VeggieGirl - Venture to any supermarket, health food store, or convenience store and you’re sure to find practically an entire aisle dedicated to nutrition/energy bars. With so many different brands, flavors, and health benefits boasted on each bar’s label, trying to decide which one to buy can certainly be overwhelming – especially if you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies.  My journey to find the “perfect” nutrition bar ended when I discovered the Odwalla Super Protein bar.

After reading the eye-catching label carefully, I was pleasantly surprised that all of the ingredients were identifiable (some other nutrition bars are basically made up of chemicals, artificial flavors and other additives) – so I decided to give it a try.  It has a very dense, chewy texture, and each bite is filled with pieces of whole-grain oats and sweet raisins.  I found this bar not only delicious, but VERY filling and satisfying as well – perfect for a quick breakfast, post-workout snack, or for any other time of the day.

One Odwalla bar is 62 grams and has 230 calories, 4.5 grams of fat (1.5 grams of saturated fat), 16 grams of protein, 31 grams of carbohydrates, 16 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of fiber.  While the calorie and sugar content may be a bit high compared to other nutrition bars, it is important to note that this bar is larger than other bars and contains NO refined sugars or artificial sweeteners. In addition, this bar contains several nutrients, including 10% of the RDA for iron and 25% for calcium, Vitamin B6, Folate, and Vitamin B12.

As a vegan, I consider the Odwalla Super Protein bar to be somewhat of a blessing – not only is it a good source of protein, vitamin B12, and other important nutrients, but it tastes great! Overall, I consider it to be a perfect nutrition bar for vegans and non-vegans (especially those with dairy allergies and intolerances) alike. I purchased this bar at my local Whole Foods store for $1.17 – I feel that it’s well worth the price, and I will continue to buy it for sure.
