Seriously delicious is all I can say! I do enjoy bars (snack, energy, protein, etc.) … and I know I am not alone based upon the entire aisles I see dedicated to this food on the go. But I must say that this new One Organic Food Bar has so much good stuff to offer, that I have added it to my top five list of go-to bars … The Taste: Sometimes options like Clif and Luna Bars are just too sweet, but sometimes raw versions like Larabars are underwhelming in flavor. Enter the One Organic Food Bar with its perfectly sweet taste that doesn’t overwhelm my taste buds, but that I would certainly classify as a treat. The flavor I sampled had a pleasant raspberry flavor that was definitely more sweet than tart. The Texture: The base of this bar is soft, pliable, chewy (but not a jaw workout), and just a touch sticky … but there are some granola crunchies in there to break up the monotony. The Ingredients: While a raw bar will have the most pure of ingredients, the ingredient list is really impressive for a non-raw bar. I love that it is soy-free, and definitely uses only all natural, organic ingredients (no artificial ingredients, trans fats, GMO's or otherwise strange substances found here). The only fault I find is that there is a good dose of sweetener used (in the forms of evaporated cane juice, rice syrup, and agave nectar); combined with the fruit and juice you are looking at 15g of sugars for the whole bar. Not bad, but something to keep in mind. Luckily, the oat goodness still shines through, for a virtuous energy-packed bar. Note - When you are seeking a good dose of protein (5g in this one, less in the blueberry version), this may not be the best pick, but when energy is key, this is one I would reach for.
The Price: I know what you are thinking … organic, all natural = expensive bar. Not so! This baby retails (that is, full price) for just $1.19 per bar, and if you buy it by the 12-pack, it is well under a buck a bar ... that is even without any sales! Organic Food Bar also offers the One version of their bars in Blueberry Muffin Crunch and Chocolate Macaroon flavors, but we didn’t get the chance to render our verdict on those. I will have to scour the stores for them!
