~~ 5 Star Selection from Go Dairy Free ~~

This product was chosen by our staff as a top pick for quality and taste.

This meal in minutes lives up to its name with an addictive cayenne pepper kick.   Beyond the spice, Fairfield Farms has obviously gone out of their way to create this entrée full of bold, rich, and organic ingredients.   The base is a pleasant organic tomato sauce over penne pasta.  However, each bite contains a myriad of different flavors, from chunks of bell peppers and onions to the delicate punch of calamata olives and capers.  The spicy aftertaste is softened with hints of red wine and garlic.  As if the great taste of these high quality ingredients weren’t enough, now comes the side benefit of nutrition.  This convenient frozen entrée contains 25% of the recommended daily intake for Vitamin A, 40% for Vitamin C, 10% for iron, and a notable 6% for Calcium.  The sugars are a low 5g, and the sodium is kept in check for a convenience food, at only 300mg total.  The Penne Puttanesca is also an excellent option for dieters, with only 300 calories, 10g of fat, and absolutely no cholesterol for the entire entrée.  For myself, I would have loved a double helping of this satisfying vegan meal.

  • Pros:  Organic; Vegan; Spicy; Homemade taste; High quality and flavorful ingredients; Diet friendly; Convenient
  • Cons:  Serving size is a bit petite, making this more of a small meal

Recommended For:

  • Office Lunches
  • Convenience
  • Flavor Seekers
  • Low Fat / Calorie Diets
  • Vegans
  • Spicy Food Connoisseurs
  • Grazers (5 to 6 Small Meals per Day)

Where to Buy:

  • In Stores - In Natural Food Grocers throughout the U.S., see Fairfield Farms for a store locator

I also found this meal to be good, but lacking in either size or something else. I ended up adding a lot of salt, which isn't ideal. I'm a big fan of puttanesca, but somehow the bite was missing from this version. I should have thought to add some more kalamata olives or maybe some tofutti Better than Cream Cheese to take the place of the more traditional feta or chevre that I used to make this dish with.

This meal definitely makes the "buy it and stick it in your freezer for some cold and lonely night" list. It's a good one to keep around for those nights where you just can't bring yourself to cook from scratch.
