Vegan Dream Vegetarian Jerky (Vegan) PDF Print E-mail

By Alisa Fleming, www.GoDairyFree.org ~ If you are craving a meat snack in which no animals were harmed in the making, then this product may very well be your “Vegan Dream.”  Seriously, it is almost scary how close to meat, meat alternatives can be!

Vegan Dream Jerky

The individual serving packages of Vegan Dream seem to house a sizable portion, but are surprisingly low in calories … not that I am counting. I struggled with opening them slightly (three flavors in total), but once I had broken through, I was rewarded for my efforts. The texture was excellent. With just a little bit of that meaty pull apart effect, a definite jerky image, and that wonderfully satisfying chew, I think you could actually fool an omnivore into believing that they were in fact enjoying a meat snack.

Cowgirl ~ This flavor was very new to my taste buds.  It was slightly sweet, slightly salty, slightly smoky, and slightly spicy. Though it seemed to be suffering an identity crisis, the flavor quickly grew on me with its deep molasses-like appeal.

Original Hickory Pepper ~ Once again, there was an underlying flavor that was completely foreign to my palate. It was somewhat salty, yet deep … I wondered if perhaps they were a bit overzealous with the onion and garlic powders.  The hickory pepper followed as an aftertaste, but overall, this one didn’t hit me quite right.

Hot Chili Pepper ~ This was easily my favorite variety, with the perfect flavor from the get go.  I loved the immediate jerky like taste that had that mildly sweet spice … but then those peppers kicked in with some serious heat.  Don’t get me wrong, spicy food lovers will adore this, but I have some flame sensitive taste buds.  A mild to medium version of the Chili Pepper flavor would be my ideal Vegan Dream selection.

Vegan Dream is a wheat and soy based product, but it is made with non-GMO soy!  See the Vegan Dream website for more information on their products and where to purchase.
