Sunland Peanut Better Organic Rosemary Garlic Peanut Butter (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Please note: This flavor has been discontinued ...

... but other flavors of Peanut Better are still available under the Sunland name.

Alisa Fleming, Go Dairy Free ~ My first encounter with the Rosemary Garlic Peanut Better didn’t start off on the right foot.  It so completely separated in the jar, that even when I removed all of the oil and peanut butter into a separate bowl, I was unable to mix it together by hand.  It was that hard packed!  With no other choice, I pulled out the hand blender.  This lightly chunky peanut butter quickly turned into a smooth and creamy spread.  I spooned the peanut butter back into the jar, and it was ready for use.

For the first trial, I slathered a Tablespoon-full on a slice of toast to get the full flavor experience.  It would be difficult for me to comment on the texture, but my well-blended version was thick, 100% creamy, and very spreadable.  In terms of taste, the potent garlic and modest rosemary notes seemed to compliment the peanut butter perfectly.  Some, including my husband, commented that the garlic might be a bit strong.  However, since we are well past the courting phase, I think the marriage can sustain a little garlic breath while I enjoy my peanut butter.

For fun, I tried it as a sauce for some roasted potatoes.  I thinned the peanut butter a bit with oil and mixed the resulting sauce with some chopped potatoes prior to baking.  While it worked fairly well, the potatoes still needed an extra jolt of flavor to really shine.  Perhaps some salt and crushed red pepper would do the trick, but I still think this Peanut Better is best intended as a sandwich spread.

Luckily, once I had whirled it back to a cohesive state, the peanuts and oil opted to stay unified.  No further blending was required, even after several days of refrigeration.  All in all, the Rosemary Garlic Peanut Better and I ended on a positive note.  While still not my absolute favorite flavor, after the tasting, it easily moved up in ranking to above average.

My Extra Notes & Tips:

  • Be sure to turn the volume down on your computer when you head to the Peanut Better website if you are in the work place, it can be a little loud.
  • Several recipes are available on PeanutBetter.com.  Also, they include a recipe or two on the tag with each jar.  Very handy!
  • Peanut Better products are kosher certified (OU).

Where to Purchase: Peanut Better can be purchased directly via their online store.  It is also distributed to grocery stores nationwide, though the Peanut Better store locator seemed to be defunct at the time of writing. Also, the new Peanut Better Deli Tubs are available via Amazon in all of the Savory Peanut Butter flavors (including the Rosemary Garlic).  Sold in six packs, they are being offered at more than a 25% discount from retail, and are eligible for free shipping.
