Spicy Southwestern Peanut Butter (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

This is hot stuff!  In fact, it was a little too spicy for my co-taster and I.  To get the full flavor effect, I attempted to test this peanut butter straight from the jar.  Not the best move, but luckily I had a glass of water handy.

We prepared the recipe that came with the jar, Spicy Oven Roasted Potatoes.  The recipe called for 4 medium potatoes.  I opted to use half russet potatoes and half sweet potatoes.  This turned out to be a wiser move than my first one.  We both agreed that the sweet potatoes complimented the spicy peanut butter flavor nicely.  The regular russet potatoes did not meld nearly as well.  I would also reduce the amount of peanut butter used in the recipe by about half (it called for a full half cup), as the spice did overwhelm at times. 

The ingredients are organic roasted peanuts, red pepper, paprika, salt, spices, and lime oil.  It sounds like a very unique mix, though I would request that they go a bit lighter on the red pepper in the next go around, perhaps moving it down a spot or two on the ingredient list.  A second recipe suggestion mentions adding 1 teaspoon of the peanut butter to your favorite chili.  I think this would be an excellent combination, particularly if your chili as a bit of sweetness (from vegetables) and provided that you have not yet added any cayenne.

  • Those Who Like it Hot

  • Online – Direct from Peanut Better, I recommend picking up their sampler for a 10% discount and to find your favorite flavor.
  • In Store – It is available in many stores nationwide.  I have spotted peanut better in several Whole Foods and mainstream grocers such as Safeway.  Though each seem to carry just a few flavors.
