By Alisa Fleming - Sharp, tangy, and obviously Asian inspired, I found the tamari, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds (which added a strong tahini flavor) to be the overwhelmingly dominant flavors in this Organicville dressing. Each seemed to compete for the spotlight, but I would hesitate to say that they clashed. It is a bold vinaigrette, perfect for my husband who must have a salad dressing with “Asian-something” in the title at all times. I found it a bit too sharp and unique for my humble green salad, so I decided to trial it as the inspiration to a rice salad. I put ½ cup of brown and red rice (combo) into my rice cooker, topped with a steamer basket full of veggies, and went back to work. 30 minutes later, I heard a click and went in to mix up my lunch (I love rice cookers!). I started by adding 2 Tablespoons of the vinaigrette to my rice. Oddly enough, while the Sesame Tamari didn’t hesitate to make itself known on my greens, it cowered into the background when stirred in with my veggie rice. I hesitated to add more, as it really seemed like I had enough dressing for one meal, but decided to add a dash or two more. This did help it to pop more, but realistically, I think I would need ¼ cup per large serving (when you are just eating veggies and rice for a meal a large serving really is in order). Perhaps if I blend it up with some tofu next time for a creamy dressing the flavor will carry better. I think the coolest factor on this one is its gluten-free nature. Sure, all of Organicville’s dressings are gluten-free, but it is so hard to find a gluten-free Asian-inspired dressing, as almost all contain soy sauce that is made with wheat. Organicville uses a wheat-free tamari in place of the soy sauce. While I do enjoy a good Asian-style salad dressing in the right context, I think this flavor shall be reserved for my husband’s green salads, as there are other Organicville flavors that suit my personal taste buds much better. My Extra Notes & Tips - I am not sure how they do it, but even w/ a natural composition, these dressings exhibited virstually no separation when stored.
- All of Organicville’s vinaigrettes/dressings are certified USDA Organic, and contain obsessively natural ingredients. Plus they are vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free.
- Ingredient and nutritional information is available on the Organicville Foods website.
