The Vegetarian Express Lemony Dill Zest (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free) PDF Print E-mail

By Alisa Fleming, Go Dairy Free ~ This review should have been written months ago … when I first cracked open this generously sized container of seasoning.  But, I just kept using it, and using it, and using it, and … well … here I sit with a package of Lemony Dill Zest Seasoning that my husband and I have been enjoying almost daily for months that is still 1/3 full!  I kept saying, “After I try it with (blank) then I will write the review.”  The thing is, the ideas just continued to flow.

So, to all of you home cooks out there, with whom I should have shared this seasoning months ago, I greatly apologize.  Attempting to make up for lost time, I will tell you that this stuff is awesome!

We have made lemony dill potatoes, lemony dill salad dressing, lemony dill “cream” sauce, and I dearly hope that they people at Vegetarian Express will forgive me, but I must confess that their Lemony Dill Zest is great with fish. While they obviously promote a vegan lifestyle, I think I would be doing a disservice not to alert the pesce-vegans our there (of which I am trialing to be) that it compliments delicate white fish swimmingly and takes that tired tuna sandwich to the next level.

But returning to its vegetarian roots, this has become our go to seasoning for all things creamy.  The flavors tended to get a bit lost in roasting, baking, etc., but when simply mixed into salad dressing or a vegan “cream” sauce in its final stages of cooking, this seasoning really shined.

In fact, once I had procured this container of Lemony Dill Zest and a jumbo jar of Vegenaise (grapeseed oil version), my omnivorous husband began requesting (seriously, this is almost unheard of) daily salads with … and I quote … “that really good dressing.”  Whipped up in mere seconds, a tablespoon or two of Vegenaise, some generous shakes of this seasoning, and just enough unsweetened milk alternative to give it the right consistency, and we were both in salad heaven.

Lest you think I had strayed too far from the vegan course, the above salad is made with "chicken-free chicken."  As somemone who is severely frightened by faux meat, I must admit that it was amazingly good.

As mentioned, the Lemony Dill Zest also excelled in creamy sauces.  A homemade Alfredo with some seasoning mixed in and some nice spring vegetables makes for a fabulously rich, yet light pasta primavera.

Some experiments still on my list … lemony dill potato salad, lemony dill mashed potatoes, lemony dill white bean soup, …

To be noted, I found this seasoning to be somewhat delicate, yet easily pumped up or toned down to taste.  The ingredients are highly honorable and all natural.  If lemon and dill are not tops on your flavor list, have no fear!  The ladies at The Vegetarian Express offer numerous seasoning selections, including Roasted Garlic & Red Bell Pepper Zip and Saucy Ranch.

I love the lemony Dill Zest from The Vegetarian Express. Have you ever tried their Parma Zaan Sprinkles? It is a Vegan Cheese Substitute. It is the only cheese substitute that doesn\'t taste like tree bark. It taste awesome. I put it on my pasta. Thevegetarianexpress.com has lots of recipes that include the Parma Zaan Sprinkles and they are so good.
