Imagine Organic Creamy Broccoli Soup (Vegan, Gluten-Free) PDF Print E-mail

Broccoli SoupOnce again, I found myself standing face to face with a sale tag I was unable to resist as it dangled beneath a “creamy” non-dairy soup.  I am a sucker for anything naturally dairy-free that is touted as creamy.  Trying to resist every flavor on the shelf, I carefully selected the Creamy Broccoli Soup, for two reasons:  One, I love broccoli, and two, it was the lowest in sugar option left on the shelves.  I figured if I was going to have a sodium injection, there was no reason for a sugar comatose as well.

On its own, the soup was good, but there was no “wow” factor.  It had that distinctive natural broccoli flair, but overall was rather mild in flavor.  The consistency was good, but more of a rich vegetable puree than an all out creamy indulgence.

I added some millet, a bit of black pepper, and for fun a dairy-free rice cheddar slice.  The black pepper added just the right amount of zing, which the soup seemed to be lacking.  The cheddar just barely melted, but definitely added some body to the soup.

Though it failed to excite me as a stand-alone soup, I would consider repurchasing it for a soup base.  Similarly, this might be an excellent option for recipes that call for a “cream” soup.

With only 60 calories per serving (240 in the entire package!) and just 1g of total fat per serving, it would be hard to go wrong with this soup.  It even has a notable amount of fiber and protein.  I also like that Imagine Foods uses organic soybeans, rather than soy protein isolates in the broccoli soup.  Of course, the sodium is high, but no higher than your average soup.

My Extra Notes and Tips:

  • Oddly enough, for a company that touts non-dairy, vegan creamy soups, all of their recipes for the creamy broccoli seem to call for cheese?  Think creatively: baked potatoes, casseroles, etc.
  • Soup Ingredients: filtered water, organic broccoli, organic onions, organic soymilk (filtered water, organic soybeans), organic potatoes, organic celery, organic spices, sea salt, organic expeller pressed safflower oil and/or sunflower oil and/or canola oil. May contain organic rice flour.

Where to Purchase:  Imagine Foods soups are widely available throughout the U.S. in Canada.  They can be found in most decent sized natural food stores, and in the natural food aisles of major grocers.  If you have trouble finding them, they are available for purchase on Amazon.
