Pacific All Natural Thai Sweet Potato Soup – Like a Spicy Dairy-Free Bisque PDF Print E-mail

Alisa Fleming ~ Earlier this year, Pacific Foods came out with a huge line of all-natural and organic hearty carton soups. I was so excited when I first went to their website and gazed at the array of enticing flavors. But then reality hit. Pacific Foods offers several wonderful non-dairy milks, but they aren’t a strictly dairy-free company. All of the Pacific hearty carton soups contains dairy … except one, the Thai Sweet Potato Soup.

Rather than wallow in sorrow that the Poblano Pepper and Corn Chowder does in fact contain cream, I decided to give the Thai Sweet Potato Soup a chance.

As far as packaged soups go, this one gets a big “thumbs up” from me. It is close to a bisque in texture, with a touch of almond butter and creamed coconut adding to the richness. The flavor is excellent – spicy, but not over the top and sweetened perfectly by the sweet potatoes, carrots, and winter squash (no added sugars!).

If I could fix anything, it would be the chunky factor. There aren’t a ton of chunks in the soup, and the ones that remain are a little too soft. I’d either vote to leave more chunkiness in the soup, or just puree it all. But that wouldn’t deter me from enjoying the soup again!

Keep in mind, since this is the only dairy-free soup in that whole product line, it is probably made on shared equipment with other milk-based products. There is no “may contain” label on the box, but those with severe milk allergies should be aware, since “may contain” labels are optional to companies.

Dietary Note: At the time of my review, this product (by ingredients) was Vegan, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Gluten-Free, Peanut-Free, Wheat-Free, Soy-Free, and Sugar-Free. However, ingredients are always subject to change on any product. For the latest ingredient and dietary information, see the product packaging.
