The new year is here, and I have several nutritious and delicious posts lined up for you! To help kick things off, I’m sharing our top dairy-free list of healthy store bought snacks. These are convenient bites that I’ve purchased more than once for our own emergency munchy needs.
In my new cookbook, Eat Dairy Free, I promised an online resource for some of my favorite healthy store bought snacks. While I’m a big believer in homemade, I also think packaged snacks are a must for dairy-free living. The enemy of any special diet is hunger, and having an arsenal of sweet and savory bites on hand can ensure that beast is kept at bay.
For homemade snacks, please enjoy the Snackables chapter in Eat Dairy Free. It includes nourishing bites, like Protein Power Bars, Apple “Bagels” with Cinnamon Raisin “Cream Cheese,” Crispy Italian Polenta Fries, Dreamy Chocolate Banana Snack Cake, Sneaky Thai Dip, and much more.
Healthy Store Bought Snacks for Dairy-Free Living
All of the goodies listed here are dairy-free by ingredients, and I prefer to purchase products with the lowest risk for dairy cross-contamination. But ingredients and processes are subject to change at any time, and what is safe for one person, might not be safe for another. Always check the packaging on these healthy store bought snacks before consumption, and contact the manufacturer directly if severe food allergies are a concern for you.
Our Favorite Dairy-Free Bars
Larabars are the trifecta of snack bars. They come in a big array of tasty flavors, they’re easy to find in stores, and they’re made with very simple, whole food ingredients. Not to mention, they’re all dairy free (at last check) and certified kosher parve. You can read my full review here and see the best Larabar flavors by vote here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Paleo
88 Acres came onto my radar last year, and their soft granola-style bars immediately became a favorite in our household. They’re chewy, full-flavored, and perfectly sweet. Plus, 88 Acres runs a dedicated top allergen free facility. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free
Kind Bars are another staple, but I like to stick to certain flavors. Most are dairy free, and many are kosher pareve, but not all. Plus, some are higher in sugars than others. We really like the lower sugar options (around 5 grams per bar). Overall these are crunchy, sticky, chewy, and full flavored. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free (some bars are soy free)
Our Favorite Dairy-Free Munchies
Beanfield’s Chips are like tortilla chips, but bean and brown rice based. They’re entire line is dairy free, including the Ranch and Nacho flavors! And everyone loves them – I mean everyone. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free (several flavors are sugar free)
Kettle Chips are so easy to find in almost any town, so they’re one of our go-to snacks when traveling. Like Kind Bars, some flavors are kosher pareve, while a few flavors contain dairy. I really like the Baked line, which at last check was completely dairy free. They also state that they have a peanut and tree nut-free facility. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free (several flavors are soy free and sugar free)
Sahale Snacks Glazed Mixes are glazed nuts in assorted sweet and savory flavors. They’re bold and fulfilling, and all of the nut packages that we have seen are dairy free and kosher parve. Their Trail Mixes are also good. Their bars, which we haven’t yet tried, appear to be dairy free, but are kosher dairy (for shared equipment). You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Gluten-Free (several varieties are vegan and/or soy-free)
Biena Chickpea Snacks and Saffron Road Chickpea Snacks are both great roasted chickpea options. They come in great dairy-free flavors. Which one I choose really comes down to availability, price, and which flavor I’m craving. You can read my Biena review here and my Saffron Road review here.
- Also Good For: Gluten-Free, Nut-Free (most are soy-free and vegan; some are sugar-free)
Enjoy Life Trail Mix is one of the few you can buy in stores with dairy-free chocolate chips! It’s also nut-free and allergy-friendly, making it easy to pack along for school. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free
Our Favorite Dairy-Free Bread (for Toast!)
Rudi’s Organic has been my go-to dairy-free brand for a decade. Their quality is top notch and they have a great selection. It isn’t as cheap as homemade, but worth the spurge when you don’t feel like baking. They also have a Gluten-Free line. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan (most varieties are nut-free and soy-free, and they have a gluten-free line)
Silver Hills Bakery is a little harder to find, but their hearty sprouted breads are another favorite. This is a Canadian-based company that runs a nut-free facility, but they ship throughout North America. They also own Little Northern Bakehouse, which is a gluten-free line of bread. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Nut-Free (most varieties are soy-free, and they have a gluten-free line)
Canyon Bakehouse is a gluten-free line of bread, and they’re also kosher parve, nut-free, and even sesame-free. I love their selection, tasty bagels, and how easy they are to locate. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan (select products contain eggs), Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free
Hilary’s Veggie Bites aren’t technically bread – okay, they aren’t even close. But they’re great little delivery bites for tapenade, guacamole, bruschetta or other toast toppers. They’re allergy-friendly and a savory snack that I love for something a little different. These are sold frozen. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free, Sugar-Free
Our Favorite Specialty Spreads
Tribe Hummus is going through some transitions, but at last check, they had tons of creative flavors and were still kosher Pareve. You’ll find this one refrigerated at many grocers, but hummus does tend to travel well for the day, too.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free (select varieties are nut-free)
Abby’s Better Nut Butter is a new one to me, but I plan to put it on our special purchase list. The quality is above and beyond and the flavors are delicious. The Date Pecan has a unique “fluffy” texture that actually blends perfectly and easily with dairy-free protein powder to make instant snack balls! You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free (select varieties are sugar-free and paleo-friendly)
Peanut Butter & Co comes in several fun flavors, including White Chocolate Wonderful! All of their peanut butters are currently dairy-free, gluten-free, and tree nut-free. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Gluten-Free, Tree Nut-Free, Soy-Free (select varieties are vegan and/or sugar-free)
Our Favorite Sweet Treat Snacks
Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars offer a little bit of wholesome with a whole wheat base and all natural ingredients. Think of them as upgraded, snack-worthy Fig Newtons. They do have a Gluten-Free line, but we find them a little too sweet. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Nut-Free, Soy-Free (gluten-free line available)
Enjoy Life Proburst Bites aren’t as easy to find in stores as I would like, but luckily, I can get them online. They’re chocolaty treats with a protein hit. They seem to get mixed reviews online because they are quite unique, but everyone I’ve spoken to really likes them. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free
Hail Merry Bites Macaroons are one of the original grain-free sweets. They come in several vegan flavors and a few of them are paleo-friendly, too. If you spot them, Hail Merry Tarts are another decadent treat that can often be found on sale. All of their products are sold refrigerated. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Paleo
Vega Maca Chocolate Bars are perfect for my daily chocolate cravings. Their low sugar, cacao rich, and stocked with maca powder. I find them fulfilling, too. Just a chunk seems to satisfy. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free (no nut ingredients)
Larabar Bites are similar to Larabars, but smaller and chocolate-forward. They’re a little more treat-like, but equally delicious. We’ve tried a few flavors, but they have some new ones that are on my list. You can read my full review here.
- Also Good For: Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free

I love Larabars, but when it comes to bread, I would add Food for Life Ezekiel bread (sesame). That’s a huge staple for me. And for a treat, Lenny and Larry’s 2 oz chocolate chip cookies. I was so happy when they took out the soy (I’m intolerant.)
Thanks for sharing this Abby – it’s been YEARS since I’ve tried any Food for Life product. I’ll need to check that out. And I didn’t even realize Lenny & Larry made a soy-free transition – that’s wonderful!
You can’t forget about @Flax4Life Brownies!
I guess I qualified those as dessert 🙂 But agreed, they are yummy!!!

Hail Merry Bites Macaroons sound amazing! I have a hard time finding safe snacks but do have luck with popcorn (every once in a while) and jerky.
Popcorn only every once in a while? It’s a nightly snack in our house! Air popped 🙂
