Quote of the Day - November 21st:
People are taking two, three, sometimes four different medications at a time to relieve their symptoms quickly and effectively because they are increasingly unsatisfied with their allergy medications. This can be a very costly, dangerous and frequently ineffective solution to treating bothersome symptoms.

Words From A Nurse Practitioner

By Heather Legg | Nov 12, 2008 | No Comments »

I recently had an opportunity to talk about allergies with a nurse practitioner and found what she had to say informative and soothing. I have written about my allergiest experience from years ago and still think that was just awful. He was adamant that anytime there is the slightest indication of a reaction, use the Epipen. Whether it’s a hive a mouth itch, anything. I liked what the nurse practitioner had to say. Continue reading…

The Return of Eczema

By Heather Legg | Nov 2, 2008 | No Comments »

The weather is beautiful out. The humidity is down and the first cold mornings have arrived. And so has the eczema. We’ve already seen itchy legs with my younger daughter, and our friend’s son has a pretty flare of eczema. It’s covering most of his body, even his face. So what can you do when turning on the heat takes so much of the humidity out of our homes? Yes, dry makes our hair look better, but it can take a toll on our skin. Those of us susceptible to eczema and dry skin need to be ready to fight the battle. Continue reading…

Cedar Allergies

By Heather Legg | Nov 1, 2008 | No Comments »

Recently my dog got a new bed, one that smells great and is full of cedar shavings. Lo and behold, what do you know, after my daughter played with her on the new bed, she (my daughter, not the dog) broke out in hives. It was the cedar. She was fine with some Benadryl and we’ll switch out the bed to a non cedar stuffed one, and chalk it up to a lesson learned. I did some research, though, and it’s interesting what I found. An Epipen Alternative? Watch for the EpiCard

By Heather Legg | Oct 24, 2008 | No Comments »

Those of us with severe allergies and children with allergies anre used to carrying around the Epipen. We find cases to fit its long, slender shape; we recognize its look and have become accustomed to it. Well, for the first time in 25 years, it may have a competitor on the horizon. The Epicard is in late development stages, and it is “designed to be the smallest, safest, and most user-friendly auto-injector ever developed.” Continue reading…
