Alisa Fleming ~ Since the inaugural FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Chicago, IL in 2004 the FAAN Walk program has grown into a nationwide fundraiser including more than 40 events across the country.
For 2012, a few cities held their FAAN walk in the spring, but the bulk of the events are yet to come. From early August through the fall, people will be Walking for Food Allergies across the country and the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) hopes you will join in.
The walks are a fantastic place for people with food allergies to come together, and are very kid- friendly. Nonetheless, the primary goal of the event to is help raise funds to go toward food allergy awareness, advocacy, education, and research programs. FAAN has set a goal to raise $2.4 million in 2012.
According to FAAN, eighty-one cents of every donated dollar is spent on innovative research and programs that help give families struggling with food allergies a fighting chance. Since 2004, FAAN has funded more than $4.6 million in research. Education remains the single most important component of staying safe while living with food allergies. Since 2006, FAAN has funded nearly $175,000 in Community Outreach Grants to local support groups throughout the country.
