I have been looking for a smoothie mix that my son would (and could) eat. He will be 12 on Sept. 20th. Wonder if he would like these! He has wheat, dairy and egg allergies! I add almond milk and strawberries or bananas to his smoothies, and sneak a little spinach in. For me, well I am not so picky, I toss whatever fruit and veggies I have into the blender, along with almond milk, ice and vanilla stevia.

    • Alisa FlemingSeptember 17, 2012 at 9:30 amAuthor

Nancy, my husband likes it and he is REALLY picky about protein powders and such. He doesn’t like the texture of brown rice or hemp protein powders, but likes this one.

  21. TracieSeptember 17, 2012 at 9:14 am

It’s now shared on my personal Facebook page! Hope someone I know wins it. :)

This is SO AWESOME! I never see vegan smoothies and I’m always looking for new things to feed my daughter, she is VERY allergic to all dairy! I always like to add a little vanilla extract to smoothies, it enhances the flavor.

    • Alisa FlemingSeptember 17, 2012 at 9:29 amAuthor

      Ooh, vanilla, brilliant!

    • Erica DSeptember 17, 2012 at 9:42 am

Colleen- try french vanilla extract next time. It’s sooo much better than plain vanilla. I kid you not! I swap it in for plain vanilla in all my recipes. I have my mom doing it too. She makes these great cutout cookies around xmas…now she uses french vanilla and people go even more nuts for the cookies! Enjoy!!

      • Alisa FlemingSeptember 17, 2012 at 10:21 amAuthor

Now where does one get french vanilla extract? Is it pure or artificial? Thanks Erica!

Hemp protein powder is the basis of my usual breakfast. When you need a vegan, low-carb breakfast, it’s a great choice. I usually add berries, avocado, spirulina, lecithin, greens and soy milk. Don’t really like bananas in smoothies and they’re too sugary anyway.

  61. KrystleSeptember 17, 2012 at 12:01 pm

    Bananas!

I am new to gluten-free kitchen, but am vegan for the past 4 years, and am loving this vegan gluten-free diet. It makes me feel radiant and energized, and healthy of course. One of my favorites are smoothies, and I am enjoying adding chia and flax seeds, as well as acai powder to them. Recently I also discovered hemp powder, and it tasted delicious! So I like adding anything new I come across, and it would be a real delight to be able to try these new flavors. I am sure my smoothies would be even more delicious :)

Hello, I just discovered your website today, liked your FB page. I am Dairy Free, a little over a year due to autoimmune disease. I was so happy to find your website and learn more. I love the recipes and tips on how to make cream out of coconut milk, (a new love of mine). I have never heard of these smoothies and I can’t wait to try them! I would love to win your contest. I am disabled with Fibromyalgia, and my husband is Gluten sensitive. He has been gluten free several months and is loosing a lot of weight because of the changes to his diet. These smoothies look like a great choice for both of our challenging diets. It has become quite difficult for us to dine out, and we’ve had to learn how to cook all over again. Thank you for your wonderful website!

Hi, I don’t have a favorite smoothie add-in. I have never had a smoothie! I am brand new to dairy free eating and am looking for good sources of protein I am very excited about your site!

Wow Michelle, you’ve got some tasty adventures ahead of you! Start with a really ripe frozen banana, and you can’t go wrong. Trust me :)

I almost always add frozen bananas. I buy too many bananas on purpose so when they get a little over ripe I’ll just peel them and stick them in the freezer for a smoothie.

Gotta have some bananas and soy milk, plus any other seasonal fruit and sometimes chia seeds. I just came across your website while flipping through the pages of the Allergic Living magazine. I’m an outpatient clinical dietitiant at a pediatrics hospital and I’m excited to share some of your lists and recipes with my GI patients. I’ve never tried this Vega product but it sounds good and its probably something new I could introduce some of my patients to as well :)

Anais, that is so wonderful. We’ve actually got some big news coming at Allergic Living soon, too. Please feel free to get in touch with me if I can ever be of help.

Already shared this with my facebook and twitter peeps but will also share with patients, thanks for the helpful info :)
