These amazing snack bars offer heft, phenomenal plant-based nutrition (protein, omega 3s, iron, calcium, no sweeteners), and purely whole food ingredients. Not to mention, they are free of top allergens - including nuts and soy! They have such an amazing profile and the flavors are truly pleasant, but my favorite, the tasty and warm Apple Cinnamon, fell just slightly short of ideal due to the cranberry addition. The others had a nice soft "zest" and mild sweetness, with a slightly pronounced, underlying seed flavor.

These soft and chewy plant-based bars are made with the raw goodness of dates, sun-ripened fruit and seeds, but without dairy, soy, eggs, gluten, peanuts, and tree nuts! Each of the Amrita Energy Bars contains about 215 calories, 8 grams of fat (from seeds), 10 grams of sugars (from fruit), and 7 grams of protein (from brown rice protein powder. And for that little extra oomph, you get 4 grams of fiber, 70 milligrams of calcium (hurray for seeds!) and 1000 milligrams of vegan omega-3 fatty acids (from that chia again).

The Apple Cinnamon was the first of the Amrita Energy Bars to catch my attention. On first bite, I was surprised to discover what seemed like a huge dried berry. Indeed, while the bar is packed with pleasant dried apple pieces against a date backdrop, there’s also a generous smattering of cranberries. I loved the light sweetness and warm cinnamon flavor, and was pleased that I didn’t detect any bitterness from the tahini. Another plus – the soft and chewy consistency had more textural interest than your average date bars – with whole chunks of fruit and seed bites. I think my only change request would be to remove the cranberries – they took away slightly from all of that apple cinnamon goodness for me.

Next up was the Mango Coconut, which was softer, more sweet-tart, and had a more pronounced sesame and sunflower seed flavor. It was pleasant, nonetheless, I’m just not a huge seed fan.

On a ravenous morning, I accidentally downed the Pineapple Chia without thinking about the actual taste! Backtracking through my memory, I recalled that it was very similar to the Mango but with obvious pineapple flare.

Of the Amrita Energy Bars that I sampled, the Apple Cinnamon remained my favorite, and I was excited to see such a virtuous, well thought out option for snacking! In addition to their five Energy varieties, they also offer a Chocolate Maca bar with 15 grams of protein!
