Summary:

Deep and dark, full-bodied and creamy, or sweet and chocolatey - whatever your craving, Califia Farms has coffee-lovers covered with these decadent, yet nutritious, almond milk iced coffees. Our family had no problem devouring all three flavors in a week!

I’ve probably been drinking coffee a lot longer than any 16-year-old should have. I’ve also had a notorious sweet tooth my whole life, and my coffee of choice was iced. So when my Aunt stocked our refrigerator with Califia Farms Dairy-Free Iced Coffees, I just had to try them.

The Double Espresso wasn’t really that sweet, but it had a really good taste to it. It was deep and rich. This one I would personally want to drink in the morning when I am waking up.

The Café Latte was a touch sweeter than the Double Espresso, and was by far the creamiest. This was the only flavor where I could really taste the almond milk, and the creaminess of it lingers in your mouth afterwards.

My personal favorite was the Mocha. It was definitely the sweetest. It almost had a rich chocolate milk taste to it, although it wasn’t as creamy as I expected, which for me was a good thing.

As a fan of dairy-free almond milk, I thought these were definitely strong contenders for iced coffee. I expect to be asking my aunt to get them for me again … especially since my uncle quickly consumed every last drop once they were open!

Editor’s Notes (a.k.a. Aunt Alisa): Since I’m not a big coffee fan, I deferred this review to Kylie, but I have to admit, they are pretty tasty! The mocha is sweet and chocolate-y enough to win over many java-averse.

Califia Farms also wins the title for the first cold-brewed, soy-free and dairy-free, ready-to-drink iced coffees. Plus these dairy-free iced coffees are made with organic fair trade coffee, boast the Non-GMO Verified label, and are packaged in a retro a 48-ounce, BPA-Free PET bottle. To top it off (yes, there is more!), they are low fat, lower in sugar than your average iced coffees, and are fortified with calcium, vitamin D, and other goodies.

  1. I noticed that all of Califia Farms beverages have Carageenan in them (except the Cold Brew Coffee). They aren’t the only ones though. Many companies call their food products “all natural” but have questionable ingredients like this. From all the research I have done, that particular food additive can be toxic and carcinogenic. For that reason I avoid all products with in it. Aren’t you concerned about consuming beverages or foods with this additive in it?

It is important to note that Carrageenan is not digestible and has no nutritional value. It is often used because it thickens and emulsifies products and it is often found even in organic and “natural” products.

It may seem that a simple product derived from seaweed should be non-menacing, and I wish it were. This article explains some of the potential problems:

  3. I have tried Califia twice now and have enjoyed it way better than the Silk Almond milk! Went to Wholefoods this past weekend with my mom and was going to try out the espresso iced coffee one but ended up putting it back. Didn’t know they had a Caffe Latte version and hope that next time they will have it. What I also like about the possibility of this is that they use Cold Brewed coffee which is way more gentle on my tummy. I am now more excited to actually try these out.

  4. I tried the almond coconut milk from Califia because I like that blend (Almond Breeze )the best, and I am having a bitter taste in my mouth. I will give other flavors a try but maybe it is the additives that are driving me nuts;(

  5. I have not been this happy in a long time. I cannot wait to try one of these. Hope I can find them in Fort Worth soon. I was just waiting for the day when a coffee company would finally start using Almond milk. Awesomeness.
