Dare I say that the Organic Granola from Cocomo Joe is the BEST granola that I’ve ever tasted. I’m not exaggerating – it was seriously love at first bite. Each spoonful has the perfect combination of gently sweetened loose granola and crunchy clusters, and Joe doesn’t tread lightly with the mix-ins. Sweet whole almonds dot every mix, and in some flavors, whole pieces of dried fruit can be found.
Though it comes in five flavors, thus far, I’ve sampled three thus far …
The Salty Chocolate was a surprise winner to me. I’m not your typical chocolate cereal loving gal, but the depth in flavor of this cereal had me gobbling every last bite and reaching into the bag for a handful more. Sweet, salty, and not too chocolaty for early morning taste buds, this granola packs in a lot of chunky goodness. Oddly enough, the only drawback was the generously sized mission figs. They tasted amazing, but were so large and chewy that they were a bit hard to eat. Dicing the figs would lead to perfection in my opinion. And yes, it does turn the almond milk in your bowl into chocolate almond milk!
The Ginger Apple was my everyday favorite. It has this amazing sweet ginger spice on a lightly apple background. The earthy combination is a true breakfast indulgence. I love that it isn’t over the top in sugars, but is sweet enough that I can use an unsweetened almond milk for a delightfully healthy treat. I loved the Ginger Apple so much that I didn’t get a picture of the trio together, before the entire bag was polished off.
The Egg Nog is such a unique and ingenious flavor – not to mention, it really does have an eggnog vibe. The vanilla and spices are notably present, and this granola had the most dessert-like flavor. Though it has the same amount of sugars and with some unsweetened almond milk, it still makes a pretty hearty breakfast.
The ingredients in Cocomo Joe’s organic granola are top notch: rolled oats, crisp brown rice, whole almonds, coconut oil and things like organic spices, coconut, dried fruit, or cocoa powder for seasoning. To sweeten, Joe uses organic brown rice syrup, organic dehydrated cane juice, and/or organic molasses. Though I usually like to go added sugar-free in the mornings, this stuff is worth the indulgence (11 grams per serving), and it fills you up with a good dose of fiber, protein, and healthy fats.
