A friend of Go Dairy Free, Amy B., trialed Mi-Del Sandwich Cookies, and has the following quick review to share. These cookies also come in Vanilla, but Amy and her daughter tried the classic Chocolate variety.
Mi-Del Sandwich Cookies are Gluten-Free & Dairy-Free, but are they Good?
One thing that most of us loved as children is Oreos and a cold glass of milk. We would split apart the cookie, and lick off the creamy frosty vanilla filling. Then it was time to dunk the chocolate cookie part in the milk until it’s soft and squishy (hoping that chunks fall off into the milk so we can drink it).
But when you have food allergies, Oreos become unattainable. Unfortunately those once beloved treats now threaten to tear my sensitive tummy to bits. So when I found Mi-Del all natural, dairy and gluten free chocolate sandwich cookies I thought I hit a jackpot. Into the carriage they went, without a second thought. Both my daughter and I could enjoy them at the same time! She has celiac, I have celiac and a dairy allergy. We both love Oreos. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
Today I took the Mi-Del sandwich cookies out, eager to try them. Who cares if it was eight o’clock in the morning? I cracked open the package and grabbed one, handing another to sweet Olivia who was thrilled her mommy was letting her eat junk for breakfast.
Mi-Del sandwich cookies are a bit on the small side and the filling looked a little opaque. It wasn’t creamy or gooey at all. Not deterred we both bit into one. I almost lost my tooth and Liv couldn’t even get a chunk off. Crunchy is putting it mildly. She broke the cookie in half and tried to lick the frosting off while I was stuck trying to figure out what they actually tasted like because it was not Oreos. “Mom, the frosting fell on the floor.” I looked down and saw her opaque frosting, still in a perfect circle, on the floor. Sigh.
I threw the cookie down on the plate in disgust. She handed the other half of the cookie back to me. I picked up the plate and started to head into the kitchen to throw them out when one fell on the floor. It hit the floor and did not break at all. No crumbs came off. Wow. A hockey puck for certain.
I do like Newman’s Own Chocolate Sandwich cookies, however they are not guaranteed to be gluten-free, only dairy and wheat free. Needless to say when I crave an Oreo I will be caving and buying those instead. Sorry Mi-Del, this is one disappointed Oreo Lover.

Hockey Pucks
There were a real disappointment. The cookies are hard as a rock, and impossible to bite into, and the frosting in the middle isn’t creamy like Oreos. Hoping there are better gluten-free and dairy-free options!
