HoneyBar – Chocolate Macaroon (Egg-Free, Wheat-Free)

Please Note: This variety has been discontinued …

… but, other Honeybar flavors are still available.

The Chocolate Macaroon Bar has a solid chocolaty cocoa taste with coconut added as an enhancer rather than as the dominant flavor.  I found it to be reminiscent of the coconut brownies I frequently whip up in response to my husband’s dessert demands.  However, the rolled oats and crisp brown rice created a nice chewy texture to remind me that it was in fact an energy bar.  Honey and chocolate were the binders and sweeteners that made it a more dessert-like bar. I trialed it as a breakfast-on-the-go, and found the chocolate flavor to be a bit too intense for my early morning taste buds.  It struck me as a bar I would enjoy for a snack break or with my afternoon tea.  This is another high sugar treat (18g) with moderate calories (190) from HoneyBar.  Their “regular” bars certainly have our vote for sweet energizing snacks to power through that afternoon lull.

  • Pros:  Wheat and egg free; Just five simple ingredients; Dessert-like flavor; Nice chewy texture; Cholesterol and sodium free
  • Cons:  High in sugars
