I can't recommend this chocolatier enough for dairy-free and gluten-free loved ones on your gift list. Everything they make is artisan, gourmet, handmade, and indulgent.

This is a review that I was saving for a special time of the year. You know, the months when chocolate decorates storefronts and entices at every turn. What, that’s every season? Okay, chocolate cravings never really subside, but when the holidays kick in, dairy-free foodies can feel an extra pang of loss as they pass by See’s Candies. Mind you, I don’t want to sound ungrateful. There are many chocolatiers that have popped up with dairy-free candy bars, chocolate chips, and even truffles. Nonetheless, I get excited when I see new artisan options, and Ethereal Chocolate Confections definitely counts.

Ethereal Confections is a relatively new dairy-free and gluten-free chocolatier that focuses on handmade chocolates and candies, using organic and local ingredients whenever possible. Most of their goodies are vegan, too.

The range of chocolates from Ethereal Confections is actually quite expansive, with a little something for everyone. Our sampling was just a drop in the bucket, though a nice little selection.

I think the one that surprised me most was the Blood Orange & Vanilla Meltaway Bar.

I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea since chocolate and orange aren’t my favorite flavor pairing, but this isn’t your ordinary chocolate bar. This double-layer of delight was a little piece of heaven. The Meltaway Bar had a smooth, truffle-like feel with a flavor that couldn’t have been more seamless and pleasing. Everything about it – the look, the taste, the texture – was pure luxury and something that couldn’t even be compared to drugstore chocolate.

We also adored the Gluten-Free Chocolate-Covered Pretzels from Ethereal Confections.

Beyond the cuteness factor, the pretzels were enrobed in a creamy semi-sweet chocolate layer that was just the right thickness. The sprinkles make them fun and insanely gift-worthy. And yes, my salty chocolate-loving friends, they do use salted pretzels. Yum!

Finally, I have to give kudos to Ethereal Confections for their beautifully packaged, generously-sized, incredibly delicious Truffles.

We had fun playing “guess the flavor,” but honestly, I can’t tell you which ones we liked most. It was too easy to lose track since they were all quite flavorful. Oh, and those rich, silky smooth middles – simply divine!

There is still so much left to trial … three additional Meltaway Bar flavors, more truffle varieties, meltaway chocolates, and oh the Chocolate Nom Noms! I nearly lost it when I saw those on the website.

Needless to say, I like this little chocolatier and can’t recommend Ethereal Confections enough for the dairy-free loved ones on your gift list. Everything about their products is gourmet and high quality.

  2. Alisa,

Wow, this review of yours is awesome. Of course, I’m a serious chocolate fan and this is the time of year for gift giving and chocolate eating. I just checked out the website and plan to order a couple of boxes for gifts. Plus, being a chocolate and sea salt loving yogi, there is no way I can resist the “Salted Karma” truffles. That just might be on the menu for Christmas Eve dinner.

Thank you for tipping us off about Ethereal Confections!
