Decadent – check. Rich – check. Healthy – um, check. Made with ingredients like organic raw cacao beans, organic stone-ground cashew butter, and pure essential oils, Gnosis actually ventures into nutritious territory with their raw chocolate truffles.
For starters, I sampled the Vitality Truffle Collection from Gnosis – they also offer Madagascar Mylk Truffles that look AMAZING and seasonal flavors, such as CinnaPecan and Pumpkin Spice in fall. Often, I will say “we” sampled, soliciting other tasters for opinions. But Kylie actually had no interest – the surprising look of the Vanilla Berry when we cut into it was “cool” but also just a little too “weird” for our resident teenager. And Tony thought the Gnosis truffles looked a bit too healthy for his sugary sweets mood that day. I wasn’t complaining, more for me! Here are my tasting notes:
This looks like a PB & J on the inside, but it is far from your typical flavor blend. The “PB” is actually an earthy organic cashew butter and the “J” is a sweet-tart combination of goldenberries, goji berries, and mulberries. Overall, it had a dark almost snack-like or savory flavor. I would label this one as tasty, guilt-free, and good with tea. In fact, while it fully satisfied my afternoon sweet snack craving, I didn’t feel at all like I’d just indulged in dessert.
Unlike the soft and forgiving interiors of the other varieties, this one was solid in the middle and even a bit crumbly. The very dark chocolate coating was contrasted by a somewhat sweet but complex berry flavor in the slightly less dark chocolate center. This flavor was almost a little too intense for my taste buds, but I still didn’t have a problem finishing it! I could see my mom, a dark chocolate and coffee fanatic, really loving this one. Have I mentioned my love for both ginger and lemongrass? Though I rarely see the two ingredients married in a recipe (I’ll have to remedy that) let alone in a truffle! The yummy grown up flavor also gave this one a sweet snack vibe that was fantastic with tea. Again, the exterior was a deep dark chocolate, while the creamy cashew butter center was spiked with fragrant ginger and lemongrass notes – neither overpowering, but both ever-present. This was the dessert truffle of the Gnosis Vitality bunch, and admittedly my favorite. I couldn’t help it! The delightfully sweet light white chocolate with a tangerine citrus vibe was just so darn good. It isn’t often that my palate gets to enjoy white chocolate, and this rich, almost caramel-y variation was just so pleasant.
