This healthy snack meets dessert treat is perfect for grain-free, dairy-free cookie lovers! The variation in flavors and textures ensures a favorite for everyone.
Alisa Fleming ~ I simply couldn’t resist the temptation of healthy cookies in a bite-sized delivery system, so I jumped on the opportunity to trial Goodbody Cookie Bites from Goodbody Baked Goods. These little noshers are not only gluten-free, they’re also grain-free. Goodbody uses the magic of almond flour, and occasionally coconut flour, for their cookie-like texture.
Goodbody Cookie Bites are also dairy-free and low glycemic (coconut sugar and coconut nectar are the primary sweeteners), with just 4 to 6 grams of sugar per serving. After tasting them, I was actually stunned by the low sugar count. They are pleasantly sweet, and rival many bars that easily have two to three times that amount of sugar.
Of course, these aren’t full-on dessert cookies, but I didn’t find this to be a problem for a few reasons:
I sampled several flavors of Goodbody Cookie Bites, and here was my take on each …
This was the flavor I was most excited to trial. Something about the idea of lemon and blueberry combined in a cookie always sounds delicious. And I wasn’t disappointed. They were almost like healthy little blondies – a bit chewy and a bit cake-like – but with a lemon-blueberry-coconut vibe. And I loved the surpise contrast of fresh walnut chunks. The lemon blueberry bites were just barely sweet enough to call a dessert, but not so much so that you couldn’t label them a snack.
Quite thick, but with a similar chewy-cakey texture, these Goodbody Cookie Bites asserted themselves with a definite coconut infusion. Nonetheless, I could taste all of the ingredients separately: coconut shreds, coconut nectar, almond flour, coconut oil, pure vanilla, sea salt. For some reason, the the flavors didn’t totally meld, but it was still a tasty little snack bite.
Another rich and chewy variety! These Goodbody Cookie Bites had an almost blondie-like chew but with random spikes of mini chips to add interest. The almond butter offered a deep, complex flavor that I truly enjoyed. For everyday snacking, this is my top cookie bite choice.
As I opened the package of this not-so-traditional mint chip cookie, the allure of pure mint extract met my nose. I loved the clean mint flavor and the generous dose of mini chocolate chips, but I wasn’t a big fan of the almond flour base. These were the firmest and driest of the bunch, probably due to the almond flour / coconut flour combination, and the minty essence and notable almond flavor didn’t quite meld. Nonetheless, these hold up well and are a perfect one to present to true almond flour fans.
Holy gooey goodness! I had a love-hate relationship with the Chocolate Brownie Goodbody Cookie Bites. If you can imagine the fudgiest, dark chocolate brownies, then you’ve got a taste for these rich bites. The most dessert-like of the bunch (yet surprisingly lower in sugar), the brownie bites had a deep chocolate flavor with natural hints of espresso (but don’t worry, they are coffee-free!). The problem: they are so messy! Do not attempt to eat these brownie bites in the car or on the go without a wet nap. Okay, you’ve got me – I do like gooey foods. But, the main problem for me, was that they were so soft and sticky that they clumped together into one giant fudge ball, making stealing a “bite” a bit more difficult. Still, I don’t know that I’d want them to change the recipe, because I love a good, fudgy brownie!

As you can tell, I had mixed feelings about the various flavors, especially since I’m not a huge almond flour cookie fan. But, they really do offer a variety for everyone. With the high quality of ingredients, low sugars, and my love for the Chocolate Brownie, Almond Butter Chocolate Chip, and Vegan Lemon Blueberry Walnut flavors (in that order), I felt that the Goodbody Cookie Bites (or breakfast bites as I call them!) were 5-star worthy.
