Toby’s Tofu Pate – Roasted Garlic & Red Pepper Spread and Dip (DISCONTINUED)

A creamy dairy-free dip…what’s not to like?  Toby’s Family Foods has come up with a line of Tofu “Pates” in five great flavors.  For our first trial, we went straight for the totally vegan Roasted Garlic and Red Pepper Pate, which turned out to be an excellent selection.

This flavorful blend of tofu, egg-less mayonnaise, celery, red peppers, roasted garlic, onions, herbs, and spices is a wonderful solution to the dairy free potluck.  The bold notes of roasted garlic and onions, followed by the slight red pepper sweetness are sure to be a hit.  The pate also contains a touch of nutritional yeast that adds a slight cheesy taste, which our tasters enjoyed.

The texture of this pate is quite unique.  It reminds me of a relatively smooth egg salad, sans egg of course.  It works wonderfully as a spread on bagels or toast, or as a dip for chips, bread, vegetables, you name it!  In fact, I was trying to find excuses to sample more of this pate.  I decided to stir a few tablespoons full into some hot rice.  I must say, it was very tasty, and made for a healthy, protein-packed, mini-meal in minutes.

We liked the health factor of this dip as well.  It is free of preservatives, fillers, and MSG, yet also relatively low in fat, calories, and sugars.  Two tablespoons contains only 80 calories, 7g of fat, and next to 0 grams of sugar.  Certainly a light order for a creamy dip that is actually all natural.  So enjoy!
