I swear the staff at Wellness Foods is constantly chanting “how low can we go” as they continuously create and revamp protein snacks with as few grams of sugar as appealingly possible. Their latest bar innovation is Simply Protein Fruit and Nut Bars.
These surprisingly sticky sweet, crispy snacks have just 3 grams of sugars each! Plus they don’t use any sugar alcohols or stevia, and are free of both dairy and soy. They use pea protein crisps for the base of the bar, bound together with a smattering of nuts, peanut butter, and dried fruit. As mentioned, the bars are low in sugar, but the same doesn’t go for other nutrients. Simply Protein Fruit and Nut Bars have 10 grams of protein, 10 grams of fiber, 5 grams of whole food fats, 10% of the RDA for calcium, and 15 to 20% for iron.
I sampled two of the Simply Protein Fruit and Nut Bars flavors. The Almond Cherry was by far my favorite. The sweet infused cherry flavor and subtle nuttiness was so lovely. Definitely repeat-worthy. I wasn’t as fond of the Peanut Butter Strawberry. It had a mild strawberry sweetness, but a savory aftertaste that was notably “off” to my taste buds.
