As you might know from my other recipe for strawberry watermelon smoothies, I think strawberries and watermelon are an under-appreciated combination. And it seems author Cathe Olson agrees! She shared her version with us.
Strawberry Watermelon Smoothies to Refresh on a Hot Summer Day
Cathe adds a little dairy-free yogurt when making strawberry watermelon smoothies, which makes this blend just a little creamier and tangier. It also adds some probiotics, depending on the brand you choose. Cathe uses a plain dairy-free yogurt, but you can choose a vanilla or even strawberry variety. Either would be delicious. We like coconut milk yogurt best, but there are various brands to choose from!
If you don’t have any dairy-free yogurt on hand, you can use coconut cream, for richness, or blend in 1/2 cup mango or a banana for an all-fruit blend.
You don’t need to add any liquid to this recipe, as watermelon is very high in water, and purees into a juice. But if you prefer a thicker, cooler smoothie, you can add a little ice, or blend in a few more frozen strawberries.
