I bet you never guessed there were so many different types of hot chocolate – let alone types of dairy-free hot chocolate. CaCoCo Superfood Drinking Chocolate is yet another nourishing and satisfying delight that can be enjoyed a multitude of ways. But in some ways, they are very special and unique.
CaCoCo Superfood Drinking Chocolate Delights in Several Flavors
Like the other dairy-free “drinking chocolates” I’ve come across, CaCoCo retains the cacao butter for creaminess (it is usually processed out in hot cocoa) and can reportedly be enjoyed hot or cold (but for me, this rich decadence still beckons most when the temperatures drop). But unlike the other brands, CaCoCo is a coarsely ground treat that is amazing sprinkled over desserts – like dairy-free coconut milk ice cream, a warm custard, or even a thick smoothie.
CaCoCo is also much more than ground dairy-free chocolate. It is made with un-roasted, raw cacao, the beans are sources via Direct Trade from a farm supplier in Ecuador, and it comes in several flavors.
When Cacoco became one with Coracao Chocolatier, they changed the product packaging and the names of the different varieties. So I’m not 100% sure which flavors I tried, but will do my best to match them up!
I was initially shocked by the serving size – just ¼ cup of hot water to create a truly rich drinking chocolate experience. It’s a sipper indeed, but surprisingly not that high in calories, quite low in sugars, and if you’re in the mood for something lighter, just add more water or dairy-free milk alternative.
60% Rick Dark
The name might sound ordinary, but this rustic drink is decadent and has a spicy sweetness. It’s packed with unique flavors that play nicely with one another. When we tried it, this formula also contained a little mesquite, so they have changed it slightly.
Ingredients: organic cacao, organic cacao butter, organic coconut sugar, organic carob, organic lucuma, organic vanilla bean, himalayan salt, organic cinnamon, organic nutmeg & organic cayenne.
Nutrition (per 3 tablespoons): 150 calories, 11g fat, 12g carbs, 2g fiber, 6g sugars (includes 7g added sugars), 1g protein.*
80% Extra Dark
This used to be called Essential Midnight, which sums up just how dark it is. It’s simple, pure, and lightly sweetened with coconut sugar. There weren’t any other ingredients when we tried it, but they now add a little vanilla and a pinch of salt for flavor balance.
Ingredients: organic cacao, organic cacao butter, organic coconut sugar, organic vanilla bean & himalayan crystal salt
Nutrition (per 3 tablespoons): 150 calories, 12g fat, 10g carbs, 1g fiber, 5g sugars (includes 5g added sugars), 2g protein.*
65% Golden Dark
When we tried it, this was called Global Warrior and it was spiked with wildcrafted shilajit and just 1 gram of sugar. They’ve sweetened it just a touch more, and dropped the shilajit, but otherwise it’s the same. I could easily enjoy a double or triple batch of this unique blend. Somehow it bridges tasty, alluring and medicinal all in one delicious semi-sweet sip.

Gift-worthy chocolate
Though a slightly pricey indulgence, this gift-worthy chocolate is meant to be savored. More accurately described as a “sipping” chocolate, this is a rich, decadent, low sugar product that comes alive with a simple dousing of hot water. The spice of the Original combined with the raw cacao is alluring and complex, the Midnight is a grown-up semi-sweet delight, and the Global Warrior somehow bridges delicious and medicinal.

If I wanted to use 8oz almond milk, how much of the mix would you recommend? Thanks!
Personally, I would add just 2 tablespoons of the chocolate and add from there to taste, if desired.
Ok, thank you!!
