AZ, Tempe – Desert Roots Kitchen

Thanks to Brian for recommending Desert Roots Kitchen:

Desert Roots Kitchen in Tempe is a vegan restaurant and so every item they serve is completely dairy free. They also have many gluten free options. Their menu changes daily, and has 8-10 very different items full of flavor (in fact if someone likes bland food, this place is probably not for them).

I’ve had curried potato, garlic split pea, kale and beet salad, etc and all were tasty and fresh made that morning. They are open 8:30-4:00. I’ve been there twice and staff is friendly and service quick. You can get samples of whatever dish you are thinking of, and get a combo plate of 2 or 3 items if you like.

Best of all they have a dairy free dessert every day! Kale cake (really) and Lemon cookies were both delicious and awesome. I’m used to only being able to eat fruit for dessert at most restaurants, so this was a welcome change.

Entrance is from a courtyard in the middle of a larger building, so it’s a little tricky to find – the entrance to the courtyard is on the west side of Mill ave just north of Gordon Biersch.

Here is a sample menu from Desert Roots Kitchen (again, it does change daily!):
