Sprinkles Cupcakes Consistently Offers a Classic Vegan Option

By Alisa Fleming on January 15, 2022 Dining Out, Suggested Restaurants, U.S. Restaurants

Updated February 2023! When you’ve got a good thing going, why mess with it? Over a decade ago, Sprinkles Cupcakes introduced a Vegan Red Velvet Cupcake, and they haven’t changed a darn thing about it since. It’s consistently available at all of their locations and made with the same ingredients.

Dairy-Free and Vegan Cupcake and Cake Options at Sprinkles Cupcakes

Sprinkles Cupcakes Vegan Red Velvet is Layered with Possibilities

Red Velvet is the signature flavor at Sprinkles Cupcakes. They make a classic Red Velvet cupcake in addition to Sugar-Free, Gluten-Free, and Vegan versions. All four are available at every Sprinkles location, every day. But only the Vegan version is dairy-free. It’s butter-less, adorned with a tofu-based cream cheese frosting, and has a V candy on top for easy identification.

Ingredients for Vegan Red Velvet Cupcakes, Mini Cupcakes, and Layer Cake at Sprinkles CupcakesSprinkles Cupcakes Vegan Red Velvet Ingredients: flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), powdered sugar (cane sugar, cornstarch), vegan cream cheese (water, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, non-gmo [isolated soy protein], maltodextrin, tofu, nondairy lactic acid, cane sugar, locust bean, guar, salt, vegetable mono and diglycerides, potassium sorbate [add as a preservative]), cane sugar, cocoa powder, canola oil, soymilk (soymilk [filtered water, whole soybeans], cane sugar, sea salt, carrageenan, natural flavor), coconut oil, applesauce (apples, water, ascorbic acid [vitamin c]), vinegar, baking soda, salt, vanilla extract (water, alcohol, sugar and vanilla bean extractives), red dye (water, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, corn syrup, glycerine, modified food starch, vegetable gum, citric acid, sugar, fd&c red 40). contains soy and wheat.

Mini Cupcakes: As mentioned, all locations of Sprinkles Cupcakes offer the Vegan Red Velvet daily, and if you plan ahead, you can enjoy it as minis. Mini cupcakes are available if ordered at least 24 hours in advance.

Layer Cake: Select Sprinkles Cupcakes locations will even make a Vegan Red Velvet Layer Cake, if ordered! Layer cakes are available in Austin, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Dallas, Disney Springs, Georgetown, Houston, La Jolla, Las Vegas, Newport Beach, New York, Palo Alto, Plano, Scottsdale, Tampa, and Westlake Village.

    Additional Dairy-Free Treats at Sprinkles

Unfortunately, all of their cookies and brownies do contain milk. But they do offer a few more non-dairy treats at Sprinkles.

    • Dark Chocolate (contains soy)
    • Dark Chocolate Cake & Cupcake Mixes (contains wheat)
    • Red Velvet Cake & Cupcake Mixes (contains wheat)
    • Vanilla Cake & Cupcake Mixes (contains egg, wheat)

Cake & Cupcake Mix Preparation: Sprinkles does call for buttermilk in the preparation of every mix. Use our Dairy-free Buttermilk Guide for an array of options. The Vanilla also calls for butter. You can substitute a dairy-free butter alternative, or simply use an equivalent amount of oil. The Dark Chocolate mix also calls for sour cream. See our Dairy-Free Sour Cream Guide, or simply use an equivalent amount of buttermilk alternative.

Menus, ingredients, kitchen procedures, management, food sourcing, and restaurant protocols are subject to change at any time. Always read the menu and discuss your dietary needs with the staff before ordering. Make sure they can accommodate your situation. There is always a risk for potential cross-contamination of allergens in any commercial kitchen. If cross-contamination is an issue for you, always speak with the manager to ensure that your meal can be safely prepared. Listings here do not guarantee that a restaurant is safe enough for your individual needs. Only you can make that decision.

Each location of a chain restaurant has different management and staff, and some might have different owners. This means differences in processes, ingredients used, menu options, and food sourcing can occur. Always verify the safety of your order for your needs at your current location.
