Fifty Licks owner, Chad Draizin, has a passion for food science. Long before opening his first ice cream truck, he brewed beer. But the desire to keep churning took hold, and his truck eventually evolved into two brick-and-mortar ice cream shops.

Chad makes classic dairy- and egg-based ice cream, but the challenge of vegan ice cream captured his attention. Consequently, he now has three vegan ice creams on the menu:

  • Choc-Coco-Mel – Chocolate in a creamy coconut milk base, with a housemade caramel ribbon.
  • Coconut Lemon Saffron – Silk road adventure spiced with saffron, star anise, and cardamom.
  • Pineapple Thai basil Sorbet – Fresh pineapple infused with thai basil

You can often find other dairy-free sorbets on the daily menu, and rumor has it that Chad is working on more vegan flavors. In fact, Mango Sticky Rice is expected to debut soon.

Your vegan scoop can be enjoyed in a cup or plain cone (ask at the shop which cones are dairy free!), or you can enjoy it with one of their specialty drinks. Although they don’t have a vegan vanilla, I think the Choc-Coco-Mel could make a nice Milkshake or Cafe Cubano.
