Viva La Vegan in Atlanta Gives New Life to Classic Southern Dishes

Viva La Vegan was recommended to us years ago, but I thought they were no longer open. They’re website is defunct and their Facebook page is barely attended to. But the positive reviews from current diners keep rolling in on Yelp, despite this restaurants lackluster online presence.

It’s a very casual spot that makes vegan comfort cuisine with some soul food flair. Regulars say to expect a line and a bit of a wait, and the prices aren’t dirt cheap. Plus, you might want to take your order to go since the seating can be sparse. But most seem to agree that it’s all worth it.

The Shrimp Po Boy (made with jackfruit vegan “shrimp”) is a favorite (picture below by Nicole H. from Yelp). You will also find American classics like “mozzarella” sticks, and tasty twists like dill fries. And they do tend to offer many soy-free and gluten-free options.
