NC, Durham and Raleigh – Kanki Japanese House: Friendly to Dairy-Free Diners

Thanks to Jessy for recommending Kanki on Facebook:

Kanki was awesome! They made my son chicken tenders and rice from scratch without dairy so he could enjoy dinner with us. They offered to make him his own hibachi as well, but he requested chicken tenders. Super helpful and and supportive staff also.

Kanki Japanese in North Carolina caters dairy-free and food allergies when possible

This is a Japanese restaurant offering a full menu of sushi and hibachi – also known as teppanyaki – which the chefs cook in front of you. Since it is Asian cuisine, you will find lots of naturally dairy-free items on the menu, including appetizers like gyozas. But it’s possible that they use butter on the grill, cream cheese in the sushi, or milk in any fried batter. So always ask. We agree that they are super accomodating. I reached out to find out their dairy free options, and got this response:

Specific sushi menu items to  watch out for that contains dairy:

  • Budokan Roll
  • Carolina Twister
  • Volcano Roll
  • Big Kahuna
  • Tina Rio
  • Krazy Train
  • Firecracker
  • Carolina Caprese
  • Hanabi Roll

Note: All of this rolls have Cream cheese  in them but you can always request them without cream cheese

Specific appetizer menu items to  watch out for that contains dairy:

  • Japapenos
  • Hot Rockin’ Lava Shrimp
  • Calamari
  • Japanese Lollipops

Hibachi Lunch and Dinner Menu

Unfortunately this entire menu is cook with European style butter, HOWEVER  we can always accommodate the request not to cook the meal with butter, the meal will be cook back in the kitchen in a separate grill to avoid cross contamination.

Now that’s service! And if you prefer food to go, they have online ordering directly on their website. But I would call to order if you have cross-contamination concerns.
