PA, Philadelphia – Metropolitan Cafe

The Metropolitan Bakery is an institution in Philadelphia, but the Metropolitan Cafe is their first sit-down restaurant, offering a nod of approval to the eat local and farm to table movements.

The soups at Metropolitan Cafe change with the seasons and are created from what their local CSA’s provide that week, but they always have a couple vegan and gluten-free mainstays, like the Thai Vegetable Soup (pictured below). Plus many of the soups in their rotation, like Apple Butternut Squash and Spicy Lemon and Chickpea, are great for vegan and gluten-free diners. It is reported that the Metropolitan Cafe does label which items are “vegan” and “gluten-free” right on the menu, which includes soups, salads, sandwiches, and more. But don’t be afraid to ask for “just” dairy-free options, as they have a few delights that aren’t fully vegan, but are void of milk-based ingredients.
