Stephanie P. emailed this dairy-free recommendation for Shine Restaurant & Potion Bar to us:

Shine is a little bit hit or miss – sometimes the food is amazing and sometimes it’s not. But the service is always great and the environment is very fancy and good for a super fancy night out.  The menu items are very clearly marked, and people who are both gluten and dairy free can eat nearly everything on the menu!

This whimsical eatery is actually 100% gluten-free, and as Stephanie mentioned, they clearly label all menu items for dairy-free, vegan, and paleo-friendly. The only things not labeled were their cocktails and “potions,” so I sent an inquiry on these and their food allergy policies, and the owner responded.

Yes our cocktails and Potions are dairy free and yes we do have a protocol. We have allergy alert buttons in our Point of Sales system; you just have to let your server know. And yes, we are very careful with allergies. We make sure there is no cross contamination.

Like so many Boulder, Colorado restaurants, Shine focuses on local, organic, and nourishing cuisine. And their menu is indeed abundant with enticing dairy-free options.

For starters, you might enjoy the vegan Doughnut Eyes, Local Mushroom Bisque, or Beet Hummus. During the brunch hours, you can order the dairy-free Skuna Salmon & Mash with avocado sauce or the vegan version of Mim’s Favorite Breakfast.

When lunch and dinner roll around, you’ll find a selection of salads and burgers to choose from, along with several other mains. A couple that caught our eye were Cappellos Grain Free Fettuccine with creamy pesto and Local Crispy Chicken Confit. You can even order Dairy-Free Broccoli Mac and Cheese on the side!

And they didn’t forget about us for dessert. Dairy-free diners can order the Chocolate Chip Sandwich Cookie with raw honey coconut ice cream, Seasonal Raw Cheesecake, and Raw Chocolate Truffle. The latter two are also vegan.

Beyond the food, Shine is well known for their drinks and dance parties. They make Craft Cocktails that sound straight out of a dark fairy tale, and healthy, non-alcoholic Potions that beckon the adventurous. And of course, they have a fun menu of warm beverages, like coffee, tea, and cacao.
