The Spread Eagle recently opened in the hip area of Homerton as London’s first all-vegan pub. In fact, all of their food, drinks, fixtures and fittings are plant-based and sourced sustainably where possible. This means that the full drink and food menu is open to dairy-free diners, too!
As for the menu, it’s a bit of an American-Mexican-British fusion experience. The food is done by Club Mexicana, who specializes in Mexican street food. Some of the menu items include Sopa de Tortilla, Tacos on Handmade Corn Tortillas, and Beer-Battered Tofish Finger Sandwiches. But what intrigued us most was their “Beer-Pairing Menu” with Deep Fried Cheeze, Chick’n Wings, and ‘Chorizo’ Quesadillas.
The Spread Eagle does have an allergy warning on their menu:
Club Mexicana is a 100% vegan business. Allergens are present in our kitchen and our suppliers’ kitchens. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that our dishes are 100% free from allergens. If you have a severe allergy, then sadly we must advise against eating with us. Please speak to your server to discuss allergens further.
We aren’t sure if this is a warning for potential cross-contamination with dairy and eggs, too, since they are supposedly sourcing 100% vegan. Call or ask in advance if this is a concern for you.
Beyond food, The Spread Eagle is well-loved for their rotating cask ales. They are specially brewed without the addition of finings, so they are natural and 100% vegan. They also serve small batch wines, have several “cult” brands of beer on tap, and offer a cocktail list with vegan twists on classic drinks.
