What began as a market stall on Denman Island has now grown into a restaurant and deli in downtown Victoria. In fact, The Very Good Butchers is the first plant-based and vegan butcher on Canada’s west coast!
After a surprising turn out for their grand opening, they were sold out of product for an entire week. That momentum has kept up and is allowing them to grow! After just four months, they’re expanding their product line and growing into a larger location.
Unlike your average butcher, The Very Good Butchers “butcher beans”. They create a variety of plant-based meat alternatives from a base of beans, vegetables, barley, and wheat gluten. It’s the secret spice blends that really give them authentic flavors. All of the products are made with organic ingredients and are completely soy-free!
This plant-based butcher offers menu items like the Roast Beast Sandwich, Hot Dawgs, Mac and Cheese, and their most loved Smokin’ Burger! In addition to a full menu of burgers, dawgs, and salads, The Very Good Butchers also prepares packaged goods and deli-style meats sold by weight. New to the Butchers is a full weekend brunch. That menu features Bennys, a Full English Breakfast Plate, Bagel with ‘Lox’, and weekly specials.
Their meats are made with barley and wheat gluten, and therefore are not gluten-free. But they do have many gluten-free options. These include BBQ jackfruit with corn tortillas, gluten-free bagels, mac and cheese, garlic dill cream cheese, and jumbo chocolate chip cookies.
The goal of the Very Good Butchers is to create delicious and innovative plant-based food that appeals to vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike. They aim to provide accessible and affordable products that have our health, animals, and environment in mind!
