ON, Toronto – Nanashake

Nanashake is a dairy-free, gluten-free frozen dessert shop run by a husband and wife team. And as you may have guessed, their soft serve is made from pureed frozen bananas, a treat also lovingly known as “nice cream” online.

Nanashake - a Toronto Frozen Dessert Shop making Banana-based, Dairy-free, Gluten-free shakes, sundaes and pops

Nanashake carries a full line-up of just-sweet-enough soft serve flavors all based on fair trade bananas and nuts. The recipes are also kept simple – the chocolate is spiked with cocoa powder and the strawberry is infused with organic berries. But the flavors aren’t limited to the ordinary. Two of their top flavors are reflective of the owners’ Middle Eastern Heritage: cardamom-laced spiced date and green pistachio with crushed nuts and rosewater.

Although spoonable soft-serve “shakes” are Nanashake’s namesake, they also offer other fun frozen desserts. You can pick-up a perfect-looking NanaPop with or without nutty coating. Or the staff can whip up a stunning sundae with your choice of healthy or slightly indulgent toppings. The selections range from nuts and fruit to gluten-free bicotti crumbs, cookie bits and breakfast cereal.

Nanashake claims that their low-sugar frozen dessert is so healthy, you can have it anytime of day, breakfast included. However, they aren’t open until noon. I suppose if you are a very late riser, you can test out this claim. But for the rest of us, “anytime” will be limited to lunch and beyond.
