Thank you to Stacie for emailing this recommendation for Woody’s Library Restaurant, housed in Carmel’s original public library:
Woody’s Library Restaurant in Carmel, Indiana has dairy free items listed specifically on their menu and separate fryers for dairy and non-dairy items.
Their menu is classic, yet eclectic. It has a big range of comforting appetizers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and daily features. The menu we viewed on their website had labeling for gluten-free, lactose-free, and vegan, but not for dairy-free specifically. So be sure to speak with your waitstaff about possible dairy-free items specifically. It looks like many of the lactose-free menu items are probably completely dairy-free, but you can never be too cautious!
Some of the main vegan selections include Roasted Tomato Bisque, Stir Fry, and Superfood Saute. They also have several vegan sides like the Garden Side Salad, Cajun Dusted Tater Tots, Fried Sweet Potatoes, Fiesta Black Beans, and more. For the salad, the Citrus Champagne Vinaigrette and Balsamic Vinaigrette were both identified as vegan.
For gluten-free customers they offer gluten-free rolls, buns, and lettuce wraps, but we aren’t certain if those baked goods are also dairy-free.
This is a family-friendly restaurant, and they do have a large kids menu. However, it is limited on lactose-free and vegan options. Check with the staff to see which items might be available to customize for dairy-free little ones.
Their dessert menu is sparse for dairy-free diners. Sorbet is the only vegan option. I’m sure it is delicious, but sorbet is almost always dairy free! But their award-winning wine list could make up for it. They also have a bottled & draft beer selection that showcases small batch & craft beers in addition to the regional favorites. And they do have a full bar with martinis and other mixed drinks.
