Yoga-urt Organic Cafe Opens a Second Dairy-Free Soft Serve Shop

It isn’t often that we stumble upon a completely dairy-free ice creamery, which is why we were so excited to learn about Yoga-urt, founded by yogi Melissa Schulman. This soft serve guru managed to create plant-based treats that are nourishing and satisfying. And her sweets are so popular, that she now has two locations.

Glendale welcomed the first Yoga-urt to Kenneth Village back in 2015, and now Echo park is giving this plant-based dessert shop another home. Both locations promise a peaceful setting and very impressive menus.

The Yoga-urt

They have over 25 handcrafted rotating flavors of organic, dairy-free, gluten-free, non-soy soft serve. Each flavor is made from an almond and/or cashew base with live and active cultures. Yes, they contain probiotics!

The flavors include the classics, like Chocolate Bliss, Vanilla Harmony, and Strawberry Serenity. But you will also find lots of options for health enthusiasts, like Ganesha’s Sweet Greens, Radiant Golden Rose, or Calming Coconut Chai. And those of us who lean toward indulgent flavors might like the Salted Caramel Zen, Peanut Butter Prana, or Birthday Cake.

The Toppings & Cones

At Yoga-urt, you can order your dairy-free frozen yogurt in a cup or a gluten-free, vegan waffle cone. Both are able to accommodate some of those toppings that you will probably want.

The topping bar is mostly organic and completely vegan. It includes fresh fruit, nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, magic shell, gummy bears, cake bites, cookies, brownies, and more. Most of the toppings are also gluten-free.

The Specialty Desserts

Beyond straight up soft serve, Yoga-urt makes desserts like frozen yogurt pies that you can buy by the slice, banana splits, and popsicles. And get this: they make ice cream sandwiches with cookies made from the leftover almond pulp of their soft serve yogurt production.

The Drinks

Their house smoothies range from light and fruity to protein-packed, and are all free of added sugars. Most are even paleo-friendly. They can also blend up a shake for you.

For simpler sips, they serve coffee from LA’s popular sustainable purveyor Groundwork, tea from The Art of Tea, and Humm kombucha.

The Special Touches

Yoga-urt practices transparency. They’ve posted the ingredients and nutrition information for every frozen yogurt flavor, their cones, and smoothies on their website.

Keeping with their higher consciousness vibe, Yoga-urt also uses biodegradable serving wear exclusively.
