Dairy-Free Apple Cinnamon Crostata

- 1 unbaked dairy-free pie crust (see the Pie Crust Tips in the post above)
- ½ cup + 1 teaspoon sugar, divided
- 4 teaspoons non-GMO cornstarch (can sub arrowroot starch)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 4 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (4 to 5 medium apples)
- 2 tablespoons chopped pecans or walnuts (omit for nut-free)
- Water, for brushing
- Dairy-free whipped cream or ice cream, for serving (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the ½ cup sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Add the apples and stir until evenly coated
- Place the unbaked pie crust flat on your prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon the apple mixture onto the center of the crust, and spread the mixture to about 2 inches from the edge of the crust.
- Fold the crust over mixture, pleating along the way.
- Brush the edge of the crust with water, and sprinkle the remaining 1 teaspoon sugar over the crust and apple filling.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Sprinkle the nuts over the apple filling (if using).
