The Best Dairy-Free Broth Brands including Stock, Bone Broth & Bouillon

Updated October 2022! Believe it or not, even broth can contain dairy. In fact, several brands use milk in one or more varieties of their broth or stock. It’s more common in bouillon cubes and bases, but happens in ready-to-pour broth, too. To avoid confusion, I usually stick to dairy-free broth brands that I know and trust. This guide includes the best dairy-free broth brands that we’ve found to date.

The Best Dairy-Free Broth Brands including Stock, Bone Broth & Bouillon

These are brands that we’ve enjoyed, continued to purchase over the years, and that don’t produce any varieties with dairy (at last check).

Please Read: At the time of our review, the items noted were dairy-free by ingredients. But always read the label prior to consumption. Ingredients and processes are subject to change at any time. “May contain” type statements do not mean the product contains that allergen. See our May Contain Guide to learn more. Always contact the company to discuss their processes and ingredients if potential cross-contamination is a concern for you. There is some degree of risk for allergen cross-contamination in all food products, regardless of what the label does or doesn’t say. Only you can decide what is safe for your needs.

    Orrington Farms Broth Bases

Broth bases are trickier to find. Better than Bouillon has some organic dairy-free options, but many of their bases contain dairy. On the other hand, Orrington Farms entire line of broth bases is dairy-free. They’ve even released an extensive, boldly labeled, vegan line. But take note that they do make some other products, like gravy mixes, that contain dairy.

    Edward & Sons Bouillon Cubes

This vegan company has a broad product line, which includes a rather sizable selection of vegan and gluten-free bouillon cubes. According to the company’s allergen table, all of their bouillon cubes are made without top allergens, but do contain corn and yeast.

    Massel Plant-Based Stock Cubes

This is an Australian company, but they also sell their vegan bouillon cubes in the U.S. In addition to being plant-based, these instant dairy-free broth cubes are gluten-free, low-fodmap, and free from “common allergens.” They also have a pretty impressive taste for bouillon.

Kitchen Basics Stock and Bone Broth

Kitchen Basics is a McCormick brand that’s made without milk, eggs, gluten, and nuts. Their expansive, ready-to-pour product line includes several different Chicken, Beef, Seafood, and Vegetable Stocks and Bone Broths.

Additional Allergen Notes from the Company:

We reduce the risk of allergen reactions by specifying that our Kitchen Basics ingredients must not contain “milk, eggs, peanuts, glutens or tree nuts.” Each production run is tested for the absence of these allergens to 5ppm.

    Imagine Foods Organic Broth

This has been my go-to brand over the years for their cleaner ingredients and taste. All of their broths are dairy-free and gluten-free, and include about a dozen varieties. They offer various ready-to-pour Chicken, Beef, Seafood, and Vegetable Broths.

    Pacific Foods Broth

This brand is comparable to Imagine Foods, but I’m not a big fan of their chicken broth. However, I do love their mushroom broth and several other options that they offer. Most are also organic. They make a huge range of ready-to-pour Chicken, Beef, Vegetable, and Turkey Broths, Stocks, and Bone Broths. They aren’t a strictly dairy-free company, but at last check, all of these products were dairy-free, gluten-free, and nut-free.

Additional Allergen Notes from the Company:

We perform an extensive five step cleaning process of all equipment after each product is produced.  Top 8 allergen ingredients and finished products containing those ingredients are kept in an allotted space.

    Nona Lim Bone Broths

This brand knows Asian soups. Their ready-to-pour bone broths range from Pho Beef to Miso Ramen, and are never short on flavor. This is a “luxury” brand that’s worth indulging from time to time.
