Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips Guide (Dark, White, Butterscotch & More!)

    53
By Alisa Fleming on December 2, 2019 Food and Grocery, Popular Food Guides

I just did a big update of this post and added ten MORE brands! You have no idea how long this detailed post took to create, and now update. Ironically, I devoured quite a bit of dairy-free chocolate as I put it together. It includes all of the white chocolate, dark chocolate, “milk” chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, butterscotch, minis, chunks, and other vegan and dairy-free chocolate chips we could find. It even includes sugar-free, keto, and paleo options!

You can quickly jump to the sections in this post with these links:

    • About this Guide
    • Quick List by Chocolate Type
    • Full Details by Brand (Ingredients, Allergen Info, How to Buy & More)

The Complete Guide to Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips - semisweet, bittersweet, butterscotch, white chocolate, minis, chunks and more! Ingredients, cross-contamination warnings, etc. Vegan, gluten-free + soy-free options.

About this Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips Guide

To the best of our knowledge, all of the dairy-free chocolate chips listed in this post are vegan. You will need to verify the source of the sugar, if concerned. Most are also gluten-free and nut-free, but we’ve included potential cross-contamination warnings, if given. There are also several soy-free varieties – see the ingredients below and cross-contamination warnings, if needed.

We will update this list of dairy-free chocolate chips as we find new varieties or are notified of changes. Please kindly leave any suggestions with full information in the comments. But before you leave a comment, read all of the information provided in this post. As noted above, it includes TWO BIG SECTIONS: Quick Lists (by Chocolate Type) and Full Details (Ingredients, Allergen Info & More by Brand).

Go Dairy Free - The Guide and Cookbook for Milk Allergies, Lactose Intolerance and Casein-Free LivingIf you prefer homemade dairy-free chocolate chips, enjoy the recipes for white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, dark chocolate, and peanut butter chunks in my book, Go Dairy Free: The Guide & Cookbook. They’re from-scratch, easy, vegan, and naturally allergy-friendly. I’ve even included a peanut-free option for the peanut butter chocolate chunks! Homemade chocolate chips are great for no-bake recipes, chocolate coating, snack mixes, cakes, and other baked goods where the  chips can melt.

This post does include Amazon affiliate links where appropriate. We use Amazon links to help maintain Go Dairy Free and keep it free for you. But we also hope these links make it easier for you to get these treats! Thank you for your support.

    Dairy-Free Chocolate Chips: The Details

Ingredients and processes are subject to change at any time, and it is not possible for us to update this list in real time. You must read the label of every product before consumption to ensure that it is safe for your needs. Cross-contamination labels on food products are completely VOLUNTARY. They should never be relied upon. If you are dealing with a severe or life threatening food allergy or have other concerns about potential allergen cross contamination, you MUST contact the company directly to ensure that their ingredients and processes are safe for your needs. This post is for informational purposes only, and should not replace your own due diligence.

The following are listed alphabetically by manufacturer. Some companies do list “non-dairy” cocoa butter in the ingredients of their dairy-free chocolate chips. But  cocoa butter is a naturally dairy free food. To avoid confusion, we have removed the phrase “‘non-dairy” in these instances.

…but what a DELICIOUS post to write! and such a resource – I am saving this for future reference. I use chocolate a lot, and having this information will help! there are several brands I will be looking for.

do you have any information about the best melting ones? and ones that don’t melt so well? 🙂

      • Alisa Fleming on December 16, 2017 9:05 am

I don’t. I’ve only tried a handful of these brands and haven’t had any melting issues with the ones that I’ve used. However, I haven’t used any of the specialty varieties – like the white or peanut butter chips. I do hope to trial those in the future as I expect more variation in performance with those.

This is quite an extensive list. Thank you for putting it together. We purchase Private Selection Brand 62% Cacao Dark Chocolate Chunks from Kroger (and the product is distributed by Kroger). My daughter has a dairy allergy and can eat these chunks without any problems (and she reacts to the slightest bit of dairy). The ingredients are: Belgian unsweetened chocolate, sugar, anhydrous dextrose, soy lecithin. Contains: Soy. May contain: milk.

I have tried many of these brands and have always been disappointed. However, I recently tried Artisan Kettle brand and they were incredible. Both the bittersweet ( dark ) and semisweet were delicious. Were on sale, so I treated myself to a bag of each. I don’t work for them nor was I paid to post this.
