Updated January 2023! Did you know that many Pillsbury ready-to-bake products, mixes, and frostings are dairy free? In fact, quite a few of them are vegan, too! We’ve put together and updated this quick guide of biscuits, crescent rolls, pie crusts, cookie dough, cake mixes, icings, and more for dairy-free needs, and have included details for egg-free, soy-free, nut-free, and vegan consumers, too. Because everyone can use a little convenience some times!

Dairy-Free Pillsbury Products: Your Guide to Dozens of Ready-to-Bake Goods with Vegan Options and Other Allergen Notes

Dairy-Free Pillsbury Products: Dozens of Ready-to-Bake Goods

All of these items are dairy-free by ingredients! Be sure to see our may contain information if the labels are causing confusion.

Vegan Options: All items listed below are vegan, unless noted as containing egg or non-vegan. Yes, the “honey butter” crescent rolls are honey-free.

More Allergen Notes: All items listed below contain wheat, unless specifically labeled as gluten-free. But they are egg-free, nut-free, and peanut-free, unless otherwise noted. We have also noted for soy, but please note that several dairy-free Pillsbury products that are not labeled as “contains soy” do contain highly refined soybean oil. In line with FDA allergen labeling regulations, highly refined oils are not considered an allergenic risk and do not need disclosure.

    Kosher Certifications

Pillsbury baking products are Certified Kosher. The frostings are Kosher Pareve. But the mixes are all Kosher Dairy, since the dairy-free mixes are made in the same facility as the ones containing dairy. Contact the company to discuss their allergen protocols if you are concerned about potential cross-contamination with milk.

This Post is for Informational Purposes Only

Always read the ingredient and nutrition statement prior to consumption. Ingredients, processes, and labeling are subject to change at any time for any company or product. Some of these items might have a “may contain” type statement for milk or other top allergens, which does not mean the product contains that allergen. See our “May Contain” Guide to understand what these statements might mean for you. Contact the company to discuss their manufacturing processes if potential allergen cross-contamination is an issue for you. No food product can be guaranteed “safe” for every individual’s needs. You should never rely on ingredient and allergen statements alone if dealing with a severe food allergy. Only you can decide what foods are safe for your needs.

Hi Alisa, it has listed in the Pillsbury Crescents “Mono & Diglycerides” is that a derivative from a cow/beef?

It isn’t a milk/dairy derivative, but I couldn’t tell you if they are derived from other parts of a cow. They are often plant-based, but you would need to speak with a representative for Pillsbury to find out specific ingredient sources. Since the majority of their products are kosher certified, I would assume it is a plant-based ingredient, but you would need to check with them to confirm.

Hi Alisa- I’m confused. All the canned biscuits you’ve listed above either say they ‘do contain milk’ or they ‘may contain milk’. Has Pillsbury recently changed their ingredients and it’s just not showing the new labels online?

Hi Suzanne, many of their biscuit varieties are made with milk ingredients, but the ones listed above are dairy-free by ingredients. None of them have a “contains milk” statement. Make sure you are looking at those varieties specifically. And yes, several (but not all!) “buttermilk” options are made without any buttermilk!
Please note the “may contain” information in the post. I’ve added it to the top of the page, too, so it can’t be missed. It’s essential to understand what “may contain” labels mean, so I have a whole post dedicated to that topic -> https://www.godairyfree.org/news/may-contain-statements
“May contain” statements are unregulated, voluntary, do not refer to ingredients (only the “contains” statement does, and that is regulated), and do not reflect actual risk of potential cross contamination. If potential cross-contamination is a concern for you, it is essential that you contact the company directly to discuss their processes rather than relying on the presence or lack of a “may contain” statement.
