Updated February 2024! Chipotle Mexican Grill specializes in San Francisco-style burritos, and they have numerous options for dairy-free diners and other special diet needs. In fact, they’ve put dairy-free, paleo, whole30, and vegan bowls right on their main menu. Consequently, we’ve been able to put together this very full dairy-free guide with allergen notes and vegan options!

This menu guide includes dairy-free menu options first, followed by custom order components. Chipotle offers a handful of “lifestyle bowls” on their menu, but it’s primarily a build-your-own burrito, taco, bowl, or salad establishment. Please note that this guide is for the U.S. locations. Options may vary in other countries.
Other Allergen & Dietary Notes: Chipotle doesn’t use eggs (except at locations serving breakfast), nuts, sesame, or fish in their food. We’ve noted which items below contain gluten or soy. For vegan options, see the Vegan Menu Guide at the bottom of this post.

There is always a risk for potential cross-contamination of allergens in any commercial kitchen. If cross-contamination is an issue for you, always speak with the manager to ensure that your meal can be safely prepared. Listings here do not guarantee that a restaurant is safe enough for your individual needs. Only you can make that decision.
Each location of a chain restaurant has different management and staff, and some might have different owners. This means differences in processes, ingredients used, menu options, and food sourcing can occur. Always verify the safety of your order for your needs at your current location.
Where to Find Chipotle Mexican Grill

Love the simple menu
I wish they would do free guac, like Qdoba, but I do appreciate how simple their menu is for ordering. I have been to locations where they aren’t as careful with the cheese. I usually just ask for fresh toppings from the back with items of concern and they’re always nice. I find that if I go early then everything is usually fresh and there aren’t issues.
Really need to watch them and what they put on your food
Cheese seems to be flying everywhere. It can be in the lettuce or the guac, and if they grab cheese with their hands, their glove now has cheese on it. You have to look in the guac and the lettuce and literally anything around the sour cream and cheese to see if it’s in other components
It’s delicious but it isn’t worth the trouble.

I have an extreme dairy allergy and chipotle is one of my favorite places to eat! Majority of the staff is really good about preventing cross contamination but YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM! If you tell them you have a dairy allergy right off the bat they will change their gloves and will be much more cautious of the cheese and sour cream. Also, sometimes I ask if they could pull out a new thing of guacamole or corn just to make sure no cheese is in it!!
Thank you for sharing this Hannah!
My comment would be for people with dairy allergies to proceed with caution when eating the guacamole. In the “line” it sits right next to the cheese shreds. When they throw the cheese shreds on other food, cheese shreds easily fall into the guacamole mainly because they are in a hurry and the cheese comes before the guacamole therefore they are moving the food down the line and the cheese shreds are being served onto people’s food OVER the guacamole.
Multiple times I had reactions at Chipotle and I couldn’t figure it out until one day I saw a piece of cheese in my guacamole…and then it happened again. I no longer eat the guacamole there and no longer have a problem.
Thank you for sharing this Kim!
The rice has butter. Lots of it.
Where are you getting this information from? It is not on their website, in their allergen info or practiced in any Chipotle I’ve visited. If you have seen this practice done, it should be reported so that people who are allergic are not getting sick.
The rice doesn’t have butter. I work at chipotle. We use rice, water, rice bran oil, bay leaves, salt, citrus juice, and cilantro. There’s no butter.
