Heading into 2024, and the Daiya Dairy-Free Cheese Blocks have been reformulated once again. But this time, it isn’t a little tweak. They have an all new recipe using oat cream and age-old cheesemaking fermentation techniques. Get full information on the all new blocks here.
Daiya is constantly tinkering with their recipes. Not a year goes by without a new formula release of some product, and this year is kicking off with a complete overhaul of Daiya Cheeze Blocks. They’ve simplified their plant-based ingredient list, and switched to a completely new vegan base of oats and chickpea protein. Along with the update, they’ve added a new, yet classic variety: Mozza (aka dairy-free mozzarella!).
Daiya Cheeze Blocks are All New with Oat and Chickpea Recipe
These new dairy-free cheese blocks have a completely different recipe from any other blocks in Daiya’s dairy-free history. So really, this is an all new product. The Farmhouse Blocks and other Daiya hard cheeses are a thing of the past. Once you try these new Daiya Cheese Blocks, be sure to leave your unbiased rating and review below!

Ignore the bad reviews
As a person with a soy and almond intolerance, this is the absolute best allergen free vegan cheese I’ve ever had. I love that they continue to strive to improve their products and find better formulas. I hope they keep up the good work!
great cheddar sub
I’m surprised by the negative reviews, I just tried the cheddar and loved it. It slices up great and is close to dairy cheese as far as taste. Can’t wait to try the others.
Not so good
I have been eating Daiya Cheeze blocks for years. Why the recipe was changed I have no idea but it isn’t nearly as cheesy or tasty as it used to be. I think the previous recipe was way better. It was nice just to cut off a chunk and eat it. Not so the new recipe. It tastes OK melted but that’s it. I am disappointed with it. Not in a hurry to buy any more.
New Recipe is a let down
I have been enjoying Daiya block cheeses for many years and was very pleased with the original recipe. I am all for making the recipe healthier and free from top allergens but I’m my personal opinion the overall taste has been compromised. There as a very strong chemically after taste that ruins it for me completely. You should produce both for those consumers who enjoyed the original with pea protein
Not Happy!
The change to oat & pea in the block cheďdar has killed the more natural tasting cheddar flavor of the old recipe. The new taste is bland. It now tastes the same as the bland cheddar slices. Not happy!!
No corn is awesome
Thank you for removing the corn-based xanthan gum and such from your products. Corn based things like that and dextrose or maltodextrin are terrible for the environment and people like me.
Bland (Monterey Jack)
So far I’ve tried the Monterey Jack style & found it to be very bland. I preferred the old blocks better but will still give the rest a try as there aren’t a lot of brands always readily available in my area
Sad you changed your formula
HI. I am very unhappy that you changed your formula for your block cheese products. Not only have you made them higher in carbs, but have added some questionable ingredients for protein. I am diabetic and have gout. The oats and chickpea formula will increase my chances of a gout attack and raise my blood sugar. I have been purchasing at least 3 blocks a week, but will no longer. Instead, I will have to purchase the competitor’s almond cheese. too bad. I really liked your earlier product when you had some nuts included and fewer carbs. It was the perfect combo. I also used your slices, 2x week, and your cream cheese (2x week) I depended on this product and now my options have really reduced since I have diabetes, gout, and am allergic to milk, eggs, and gluten.
Farmhouse blocks, chunky and thick slices
If you love to nosh on chunks of cheese, or slice it thick for sandwiches, then this could be the sub for you. By far the closest in texture and in some cases taste (particularly the Cheddar), to traditional blocks of cheese, this substitute is ready for appetizer platters. That said, unlike its predecessor, the Farmhouse Blocks don’t melt as nicely on their own. However, you can pop them into stove top sauces, the warm surrounding liquid coaxes them to melt and meld deliciously.

Just tried the Daiya Monterey Jack. Tried melting on veggie burger under broiler, tastes great but doesn’t melt like cheese. Sliced in a sandwich or eaten plain, it’s very very good!
I loved these! I bought some during my last shopping trip and couldn’t believe how close to “real” cheese it tasted. It’s just great to have more options, especially for cheeses made without nuts.
Thank you for sharing your own review Nicole!
Daiya is a good alternative, though it really doesn’t taste like real cheddar (just removed dairy from my diet) found out about this “cheese”. In some ways it is like the plastic wrapped cheese slices that the fresh cheese slices. But I am not complaining! It is as close to cheese as one can get.
Just remember to read the ingredients because the cheddar slices are made from different ingredients that the cheddar shreds and I am guessing the cheddar blocks may be slightly different as well. Haven’t seen the blocks in my city yet. If you are on a multi intolerance eating regime don’t assume the same item in a different format has the same ingredients.
Hi Nicola, these are definitely quite a different formula from the slices (which are more like processed food cheese in my opinion, too!) and the shreds. They are more of an authentic cheddar in taste and texture than the others, but don’t melt as well. Hopefully you find them soon!
“In some ways it is like the plastic wrapped cheese slices that the fresh cheese slices.” lol, agreed! ?
Thank goodness I am part of the lucky minority of people with dairy allergies that can eat sheep and goat dairy. I dunno how I’d survive if I wasn’t.
I think you are referring to the slices – different formula – this one is brand new, and as noted, not “Velveeta” like I thought the prior blocks were, too! 🙂
I haven’t seen these yet, but looking forward to trying it. I’m not a huge fan of Daiya shreds and the original “blocks” that melt. Maybe these will be closer to real cheese flavor.
These are replacing those old blocks and are very, very different. I’ll be curious what you think Jenn!
Thanks for the review! I haven’t tried the new blocks since they revamped them. They sound like a great addition to a wine and cheese night. I’ll check them out sometime!
Definitely a better wine and cheese option than most!
I can’t wait for these cheeses to start appearing in Germany, I really miss hard cheeses and they are much more difficult to make at home than vegan cream cheese and the like.
I love these blocks so much! They’re the best budget-friendly vegan cheese blocks out there by far, imo. We buy at least one every week!
Thanks for sharing Becky!
I love the cheddar block. It really is so close to dairy cheddar. The havarti’s texture was a little off but it tasted great. Thanks for the review, I agree with everything you wrote.
Thanks Linda, good to get some other opinions!
I love how many options there are now with dairy free! I remember just a few years ago when it was slim pickings. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! I bet there will be some fun stuff at Expo!
Yes, I’m looking for to Expo – will you be there Sophia?
I love that so many more companies aren’t just offering traditional cheese substitutes, but are trying to offer more of a variety. I’ll have to be on the look out for this in stores!
I agree, the variety emerging is fantastic!
