Alisa Fleming ~ The first time I tasted an Enjoy Life cookie, it was like a little angel had descended upon my newly free-from life. At that time, very few products were available for dairy-free diets, let alone other allergens. I had little hope that store-bought cookies and snacks would be in my future, but when I had my first nibble of an Enjoy Life snickerdoodle, I knew everything would be okay.
Several years have since passed, and now I love baking so much that I seldom purchase snack foods. However, when I found out Enjoy Life was reporting that their cookies had a “New, Even Tastier Formula,” my taste buds perked up. They were already so darn good, could they get any better?
Well, I’m here to confirm that the new, improved Enjoy Life cookies are scrumptious, or at least the three varieties that we sampled …
You bet your money that this was the first flavor I went for. Was the taste good? No, it was excellent. Each bite was spiked with cinnamon goodness, but that wasn’t the best part … oh no, not even close. The best part, my friends, was how utterly soft these cookies are. If you are one of those people who almost prefers cookie dough to baked cookies (I’m typing with one hand right now, as the other is raised high in the air), then this is the cookie for you. These sweet (but not too sweet) gems are just a two-minute bake away from cookie dough. Heaven.
Double Chocolate Brownie
Oh yeah, these are brownies baby. Decadent, fudgy brownies in a cookie shape and spiked with mini chocolate chips. Need I say more? Yes, these were of course the husband’s favorites. My loyalties still lie with the Snickerdoodles, but darn, these soft and wonderfully rich little cookies are a very, very close second.
Whoever names the cookie flavors at Enjoy Life is truly good at their job. As the title proclaims, this is a very lively lemon cookie. Of the three, these were the most “cookie-like,” still pillowy-soft, but definitely a baked cookie rather than cookie dough in texture. Each bite contained little zesty crunches of lemon … truly unique. I liked them, and will have no trouble eating more, but I’m really not a lemon fan, so these wouldn’t be my first or second choice. But if you like lemon, definitely give them a try.
Beyond their allergen-free status (all Enjoy Life products are made in their dedicated facility) these cookies are vegan, certified kosher pareve, certified gluten-free, and made with rather wholesome ingredients. The snickerdoodles, for example, contain the following: Sorghum Flour, Brown Pure Cane Sugar, Date Paste, Expeller-Pressed Vegetable Oil (Safflower Oil and/or Sunflower Oil), Grape, Apple & Pear Juice Concentrates, Natural Rice Dextrin, Water, Ground Flaxseed, Vanilla, Baking Soda, Xanthan Gum, Salt, Cinnamon, Rosemary Extract.
Oh, and did I mention that there are more flavors? Enjoy Life Cookies also come in the following varieties (listed in order of what I want to try next!): Chewy Chocolate Chip, Gingerbread Spice, Happy Apple, and No Oats “Oatmeal.”
As mentioned in the title of this article, the cookies also have some new packaging going on, which I rather like, inside and out (not a single broken cookie!) …
So keep an eye out for the snazzy new colorful white boxes (rather cheerful looking I think … see below) at your local grocer, or you can order them online (see the company website below).
