Starbucks makes a splash in our Friday Bite this week with dairy-free bottled beverages and vegan cupcakes. Plus, two food allergy recall affect milk allergic consumers.
Starbucks Unveils Upcoming Dairy-Free Bottled Beverages
Starbucks plans to evolve its Ready-to-Drink (RTD) line-up next year to include non-dairy versions of consumer favorites. Customers will be able to enjoy the sweet and creamy Starbucks Bottled Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drink with Almondmilk. Frappuccinos are the longest-standing product in the Starbucks RTD portfolio, and they felt that it was time to expand into the non-dairy sector. The new Almondmilk versions will have 35% fewer calories than the coffee and mocha Frappuccino bottled beverages and will be available in Mocha and Vanilla flavors.
Starbucks will also add new Starbucks Doubleshot Coffee Smoothies made with Real Fruit and Almondmilk to their bottled beverages. At launch, customers will be able to enjoy this new line of non-dairy beverages in Vanilla Honey Banana and Dark Chocolate Banana flavors.
These non-dairy Starbucks bottled beverages are scheduled to be released May 2018. The drinks are labeled as non-dairy, not dairy-free, because of potential cross-contamination issues with their dairy-based products. According to VegNews, the bottled drinks cannot be certified vegan due to being processed on shared equipment. However, the new bottled beverages do not contain dairy or any other animal-based ingredients.
