Almond Dream Holds on With Their Classic Unsweetened Milk Beverage

By Alisa Fleming on June 17, 2019 Dairy-Free Milk Substitute Reviews, Product Reviews

Years ago, when my own strictly dairy-free ventures began, the options for milk alternatives were slim to none. In my small town, not a single store carried dairy-free beverages, and the nearest natural food store had just two types of soymilk and one brand of almond milk. Since that time, the market has become saturated with dairy-free milks, and brands are constantly reformulating to stay competitive. Almond Dream has been one of those brands, fighting to stay alive.

Almond Dream has had many flavors come and go, including Pumpkin Spice. And in recent years, they’ve dabbled in Boosted beverages with more protein and Ultimate beverages with more rich almonds. But alas, those have all been discontinued. Nevertheless, their Original Unsweetened variety has stood the test of time, and now stands alone as their one nutty dairy-free milk. (Yes, even Cashew Dream was discontinued!)

Almond Dream Almond Beverage Review and Information - for all 3 almond milk product lines - Classic Enriched, Ultimate (like homemade), and Boosted (fortified with omegas, protein, vitamins, and more)

Almond Dream Holds on With Their Classic Unsweetened Milk Beverage

Long before the other brands, Almond Dream was boasting a creamy formula from real almonds, and fortifying each glass to rival dairy milk in nutrients. It has a loyal following who love the smooth finish and the ability to stock up, since it’s shelf stable.

    Almond Dream Unsweetened Almond Drink

This Unsweetened variety is the only almond milk variety left from their classic enriched Almond Dream line. Although it doesn’t sound as exciting as the as the Ultimate and Boosted, it is the lowest in calories and sugar and the highest in calcium of all their almond milks.

    Love the Classic

I’ve had trouble finding the Ultimate and Boosted varieties (I have heard the Ultimate really is rich like homemade!), but the Classic Almond Dream is still one of our favorites. I’m glad they kept the Unsweetened, which is the type we buy most. It’s a touch richer in consistency than Almond Breeze, and is good in smoothies and recipes. I still lean on homemade more for versatility, so I’m hoping to find the Ultimate almond milks soon.
