With so many protein powders on the market, it can be hard to differentiate. But I really do think Amazing Grass Protein Superfood may have one-upped the competition.
I’ve been a fan of Amazing Grass ever since they first released their Green Superfood. Almost all of their products have continued to revolve around that original blend of greens, fruits and vegetables. Some I’ve really liked, some not as much, but the Amazing Grass Protein Superfood may be a new favorite.
Tasting Notes for Amazing Grass Protein Superfood
I’ve never liked protein powders straight up in water. But to keep our reviews fair across the board, I always give it a little taste test in water (yep, not a fan), and then in my basic test smoothie.
The “test” smoothie as I call it, always consists of 1/2 serving of the protein powder, 1 medium frozen banana, and just enough unsweetened milk beverage. Why half of a serving? For two reasons. One is that I’m petite, and my stomach simply doesn’t like a huge load of straight protein powder. It’s more than a woman my size needs! The other is that most of the time, I don’t find a full serving tasty in smoothies. In the last tablespoon or so, it starts hitting that powdery and overwhelming point.
That said, the Chocolate Peanut Butter was DELICIOUS in my test smoothie, and I could have added more than a half serving without negatively affecting the flavor. Unlike their Amazing Meal, the Amazing Grass Protein Superfood is made with ultra-creamy pea protein. It creates a wonderfully thick and smooth consistency. The flavor was just cocoa-y and peanut buttery enough, but I wouldn’t argue if they upped the peanut flavor even more. I think the only drawback was the stevia. It wasn’t overwhelming in my smoothie, but I did note it in the aftertaste. If a full serving is used, it might be a little too much for stevia super-tasters.
What’s in Amazing Grass Protein Superfood
On their website, Amazing Grass Protein Superfood is called an “all-in-one protein nutrition shake”. Beyond the 20 grams of pea, hemp, and quinoa protein, this powder contains their signature green, fruit, and vegetable blends. And lest you think these goodies are merely an afterthought, each serving packs in 2 FULL servings of fruits and vegetables.
The flavor I trialed also had organic peanut flour, natural flavors, cocoa, salt, xanthan gum, and stevia. And despite the fact that Amazing Grass Protein Superfood isn’t fortified with micronutients, it contains a good amount of fiber, potassium, vitamin K, vitamin A, calcium, and iron.
