Amy’s Organic Pasta Sauces are the Next Best Thing to Homemade (DISCONTINUED)

By Alisa Fleming on January 19, 2008 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Unfortunately, Amy’s Organic Pasta Sauces have been discontinued. See our Dairy-Free Sauce Reviews for products that are currently available.

My frugal side held out hope that Amy’s Organic Pasta Sauces would prove to be nothing special. After all, tomato sauce is tomato sauce, right?

For as long as I can remember I have picked up the special of the week, never paying more than $1-$2 for a good-sized jar of pasta sauce. I even scoffed at those foolish enough to spend upwards of $5 on such an inexpensive commodity. Yet, in the back of my mind I knew that Amy’s would somehow work their magic to make an ordinary food extraordinary.

As a consolation, this pasta sauce is so good, that few other ingredients need to be purchased to make this a fabulous meal.  Pasta, a side of broccoli, and there you have it; the rest is simply extra.  Honestly, now that we have tasted these fresh, bold, and flavorful pasta sauces, I don’t think it will be possible for my husband and I to return to those cheap jars of Classico.

    Amy's Organic Pasta Sauce

Amy’s Organic Pasta Sauces are the Next Best Thing to Homemade

Despite the lack of added sugars in Amy’s Organic Pasta Sauces, they each have a wonderful natural sweetness and aren’t the least bit acidic. I actually grabbed a spoon after one meal to “clean” out the jar!

But I will say that my household favored the salted varieties. The light in sodium versions were just a little too sweet for our taste buds. They needed a little more flavor contrast.

It’s getting harder to find pasta sauce made without dairy, additives, and sugar, but with extra-virgin olive oil (instead of soy or canola). Amy’s satisfies my whole wish list. And it tastes like good quality, from scratch pasta sauce too. I never feel guilty buying it … as long as it’s on sale!
